A Little of Everything
This has been a busy week for me. However, it is the last week before spring break, so the end is in sight! I teach at a private school, and we get two weeks of spring break. The plan for the vacation is to retile the kitchen floor. The floor currently looks like this, so there can only be improvement.
I did not do much around the house this week. One project that I accomplished last weekend was to sew a braided rug back together. It is in the hall, and we were constantly tripping over it.
It had been coming apart for a while, and I had already sewn several sections of it. This time I decided that I would not stop until it is done. It looks so much better, and I am kicking myself for not doing it sooner. Crème is not happy because she enjoyed attacking the parts that stuck out. She will just have to find something else to attack. Believe me; that is not a problem for her.
The only other project that I worked on this weekend was to look for fabric to reupholster my sofa and chaise lounge. I will not go into detail since I already wrote a whole post about it. (If you missed that post, you can catch up on my dilemma here.) I would like to redo both pieces in purple velvet. Then, I thought of trying to do one piece in a fabric that had red and purple to tie the purple in with the red chair in the room.
My new idea is to use purple velvet on the seats and fronts of both pieces and use a fabric with a print on the back. It took me quite a while to find an upholstery fabric with red and purple that I really liked. This is the one that I am currently leaning towards. I think that it will go well with all of the colors in the room.
Here are some others that I have considered. Obviously, with these I would have to go with a different shade of purple.
What do you think? Do you know of any other beautiful fabrics with red and purple? In my mind I see something more scrolly. I do not know how to properly describe what I see. Can any of you magically read my mind and create what I want? My budget tops off at $25/yard.
Happy Homemaking!
Jessica, I am so impressed with all of your posts and your projects! Great job.. Just think of where you will be in 24 months!!! The house will be 100% diffferent with so many more stories to tell… memories to look back on and things to look forward too! Awesome.
(What does your family think about Chavez passing?)
Thanks Bets! It is sometimes hard to remember that there will be an end to the projects when it is so far away! Nice to have a reminder.
My family is hopeful but nervous about the future. Have you spoken to your family in Venezuela?
How are your girls? And Jakko?
I have not spoken to them at all… I should but my spanish stinks and wel, I have no good excuse… Although, Sylvia is enrolled in a spanish immersion program at school.. 1/2 day in spanish and the other half in english. When she graduates high school, she will have an international diploma… so she should be able to help me write them in a few years.
The girls are good… Tabitha is making us learn to be better parents… She is a different kid all together… We are learning a lot more about patience and how to live on NO SLEEP.
Jakko is good. I am good.. All is good. More later!
Betsy
I love it! Great job selecting beautiful fabrics!
Thank you. Which one do you like better?
I LOVE the one you are leaning towards!!! That’s my pick. 🙂
Thanks Niki! That is almost everyone’s favorite so far. Only my mom picked a different one.
I hope to see you soon.
