A New Look for the Guest Room
Our guest room has been looking better and better all the time. Last September we finally painted it. Last week we hung the map in there. Things were looking pretty good. I was satisfied.
Then, the other day I was driving home from work when I passed a garage sale. I resisted stopping, but I could not help taking a look as I passed by. Unfortunately, or fortunately depending how you look at it, what caught my eye was a quilt with cats on it. Did you get that? There was a quilt. With cats on it.
I kept driving, but at the corner I turned left instead of right. At the next street I made another left hand turn and then another until I found myself back in front of the house. I parked. A few minutes and $25 later the quilt was mine, as was an antique coverlet.
Back at home the guest room was still looking good. Of course, everything looks wonderful with a sleeping cat in the middle of it. In fact, this is Crèmie’s bedroom so there could be no changes in there without her approval.
I hated to disturb her nap, but as soon as I put the quilt down on her bed she came over to investigate.
Luckily, she gave it two paws up right away.
Ponche came up to check things out as well. However, he must not be that excited about bedding because he did not stay long.
After he left, Crème went back to her nap.
I did not let her sleep long before showing her the coverlet.
The coverlet has some damage, but it is not too noticeable. There is a hole near the middle and some fraying on the edges.
Crème did not seemed bothered by the damage and gave the coverlet her approval as well. Or maybe it just does not really matter to her what she takes a bath on.
After bothering poor Crème and keeping her from her beauty sleep I took the quilt and coverlet off the bed to wash them. Don’t they look pretty hanging on the line?
Once they were dry I properly made the bed.
You might think that a vintage pink coverlet and kitty quilt are an odd choice to pair with the map, but I really like them together. There is pink in the map after all, and the rest of the colors coordinate nicely as well.
I love how this room is turning out.
Happy Homemaking!
Love it!!!! Perfect decor!!!!
Thank you. Douglas says that it looks like a grandmother’s room, but I like it!
Put a bright color on the bed then see what Douglas says. Jo
That quilt was a real deal especially for a cat lover like you. How could you have known that the colors would so perfectly go with the map. Jo @ Let’s Face the Music
I wasn’t even thinking of putting it in that bedroom when I bought it I was thinking that we could throw it on the couch downstairs. It wasn’t until I got home that I realized that it would go perfectly with the map. It was meant to be.
The first thing that struck me was how well the quilt colors go with the map. And it has cats on it! It’s perfect. The coverlet is very pretty as well. I like that it looks like a grandma’s room–it’s very comfy and cheerful and warm looking.
Being that it was my great grandmother’s bed, and I have memories of sleeping in it with her after my great grandfather died, it makes it feel very comforting to me that it looks like a grandmother’s room.
That quilt is amazing! I like the colors together and the quilt covering the whole bed.
Hopefully, you will get to come sleep in it soon!!!!
Everything looks amazing together! You have such an great eye for pulling random things together that end up looking just perfect! Like everything was made to go together. Love it!
That is the best compliment ever. I always laugh when I see people making mood boards and planning out rooms because I just throw the most random things together and call it done. I have a vague idea of what I want, but it is apt to change a lot before I finish.
All I can say is Crème is a gril, she obviously has an eye for design, Ponche doesn’t!
I think that Ponche can learn, but he definitely does not have it naturally.
