And So Fall Begins
Saturday was a total bust. It was raining when I woke up and did not stop for most of the day. To top off the bad weather, I had a migraine and could not get motivated to get any work done that morning.
I finally pulled it together in the late afternoon and helped Douglas install a new cabinet in the kitchen. Then, I rearranged the furniture in the living room. There will be more on that later this week or next.
Sunday made up for that in its sheer beauty. The weather was chilly but otherwise clear and sunny. Fall was in the air.
Thus, Menderes and I went out to do the quintessential fall activity… we raked leaves. It was a first for our city boy.
I billed it as excellent exercise. He lamented our lack of a leaf blower such as our neighbor was employing. I did not have the heart to tell him that we had one, and I sold it in our yard sale. Well, that is not entirely true. I told him. He vowed to be busy for the next five weekends.
While we were at it, mums were planted and the garden was cleaned.
I cut down all of the dying sunflowers, but I left the heads in the garden so that the squirrels can eat them. Last year, they appreciated that gesture so much that they planted a few for me. It almost allows me to forgive them for eating some of my bulbs but not quite.
The house is looking nice and autumnal. I do miss summer, but fall is lovely.
In the afternoon, my mom and her husband came by, and my mom and I took Kahlua to the dog park. She loves it there, and for the first time, I noticed the name of one of the runs. We had a dog named Sambuca, and it was touching that part of the park carries her name.
I hope that you all had a wonderful weekend and have a great week ahead.
Happy Homemaking!
For the record, I was not slacking while they worked. I had to work. I was covering a football game out on Long Island, which made for a long day for me. Would rather of worked in the yard and gone to dog park.
It’s true. I’ll vouch for you, although I don’t think anyone that knows anything about you would consider you a slacker!
That little, individually set cabinet is a neat idea, a perfect use of an awkward space. Looks great!
Thanks, eventually I would like to get a bigger cabinet for that space, but this is much better for now.
Where did you end up finding the cabinet? I know you have been on the lookout and it looks great!
You are ruining the surprise! 😉 I am going to write about it next week, but I got it from Craigslist.
That little white cabinet is adorable!
