Changes in the Garden – Cambios en el jardín
The eight foot by twelve foot raised bed was the first one that we put in. We have enjoyed having it, but it is so big that it can be difficult to reach the middle. Douglas decided last year that he was going to divide the bed in two. Two weeks ago he started started the process by cutting the bed in half. It was a matter of measuring, digging the dirt from behind the line where the cut would be made and actually making the cut. Thank goodness for the reciprocating saw.
He then moved the boards back, dug the grass out of that area and there things sat for the next week.
Last weekend he finished the project. First he had to dig out space to attach the new boards. Once the boards were secured he had to transport all the dirt into the new bed. It is looking good, but the dirt still has to be removed from between the beds. That will happen next weekend. He placed the grass on the top in the meantime to try to keep it alive.
While he was working on that, I started cleaning out the other two beds. I started with the little one that contains the wild arugula and asparagus.
The asparagus is just starting to emerge. I cannot wait to start eating it in a couple of weeks.
El espárrago está empezando a emergir. Estoy anticipando comerlo en unas semanas.
Then I moved on to the bed that held the lettuce and tomatoes last year. This year I am planning to put the peas and beans in there and move the tomatoes to the furthest bed. It is good to move things around every year.
I cannot wait to get everything planted. I have been planning the garden this week. I also cleaned out the front garden beds. The tulips are stunning.
Happy Homemaking!

Your house was made to have red tulips. You’re an ambitious gardener. Can’t wait to see the results of your hard work and patience. Jo @ Let’s Face the Music
I only wish the tulips lasted a bit longer. You have quite the garden at your house as well!
Once again, you are far ahead of us! Looking good! We spent much of April on vacation (posts to come!), so now we must get off our butts and plant, or we’ll have the same kind of garden we had last year–bare.
I must admit that I did not get the planting done this weekend that I was hoping to. The garden is still in the dream stage so who knows if it will happen.
I prepped the bed I have for my kitchen garden today… I can feel every muscle in my body tonight! I guess you and your husband feel the same! But it’ll be nice starting planting next weekend, weather permitting…
Working in the garden is so much better than going to the gym!
