Cleaning
Cleaning is such a sexy topic, isn’t it? I try to keep on top of it, but sometimes life sneaks up on me I hate to shatter your image of my spotless house, but last week things were getting pretty bad in my house. By Saturday things were unbearable. Kahlua was fed up and demanding that I do something about the mess in the bedroom.
Even Crème was sticking to the edges of the room and trying to avoid having her picture taken amidst the mess.
We had guests coming on Sunday. I knew that it was unlikely that they would see the bedroom, but I also knew that if I started cleaning in the living room, it was unlikely that I would make it to the bedroom.
You see, the living room, dining room, kitchen and bathroom had to be cleaned in order to avoid embarrassment. On the other hand, I could always close the door to the bedroom, so that my guests would not see the mess, but I would not be able to enjoy the serenity of a clean environment after they left.
I am not sure why I was worried about feeling shame if I was just going to post photos on the internet.
After dusting, vacuuming, and putting everything away, it was looking a lot better. Kahlua had hidden in the living room to avoid all of the hard work, but she conveniently returned when it was all done.
Her sister thought that I had made the bed just for her and curled right up to go to sleep as soon as I was finished straightening it.
The animals were much happier in the immaculate room, and I was delighted to be able to relax in my space again.
As for the visit, our friends never did see our bedroom. Crème had to be banished there because she refused to behave.
We had a lovely time together, and our lunch was a great success. And I had a perfectly clean room to return to once they went home.
Sometimes, the big DIY projects are what makes the most important difference in our lives. Often, the little tasks that we perform every day are the ones that truly make our house a home. That and the fuzzy beasts that share it with us. Wouldn’t you agree?
Happy Homemaking!
P.S. Douglas is included in the fuzzy beasts that make my house a home. He just was not available for the cleaning or pictures since he had to work. 😉
Your bedroom is beautiful. And I love your fur babies. I enjoy your blog so much!
Meg, you made my night! I love to get new followers, especially ones that enjoy reading my blog and think that the fuzzballs are cute.
I’m glad to know you’re not perfect after all! 😉 Isn’t it funny how all the fuzzy beasts really prefer a clean house?
So sorry to disappoint you, D’Arcy. I know you’re shocked. Surprising how big a mess the beasts can make when they prefer things to be clean, but I guess I am guilty as well!
Lovely hanging thing in the corner of your room. My room is a royal mess but I blame it on the fact our closet isn’t in working order yet. Blah blah blah! Enjoy your serenity. Jo @ Let’s Face the Music
That lovely thing is a candelabra that was actually purchased in Frederick, MD. The diamond shaped crystals reflect the candle light beautifully, but we do not use it nearly as much as we aught to. It would add to the serenity.
You must have patience with your room. It will all be done soon, and you will be able to relax in your luxurious suite.
My bedroom is also a mess and I can’t find the energy to take care of it! I admire you.
Thanks! This is a busy time of year for teachers, but don’t worry, summer is coming soon!
Greetings from Singapore! I’ve had the luxury of no house work for a few weeks as living in a hotel! It’s so nice not washing clothes and dishes! Back to reality Sunday though as back to the UK! Hope the husband and fur babies have kept my house clean! Definately will be mega jet lagged when I get home so cleaning will be down in my priority list next to pulling out my own finger nails with pliers! Lol!
Wow! Singapore. I hope you enjoyed your time and have a safe trip back. I’m sure your little beasties have finished lots of projects for you.
I have loved it here! Sad and happy at the same time to return home! Worth a visit if anyone is in SE Asia – food is fantastic! DIET when I get home!

OMG totally agree! What a great statement. Love your bed quilt/puff/duvet cover whatever it is – it’s beautiful and looks so soft and cozy.
I am very curious to know what Crème did to get banished to the bedroom while your guests were visiting!
