Creating a Snow Canyon for Your Pets
If you live in an area that gets a lot of snow and have pets, I am sure that you have experienced the dilemma of how to let them out when there is a lot of snow. We try to take Kahlua for a couple of walks a day, but there are times when we just let her out to pee in the backyard. That is getting increasingly difficult as the snow piles up.
On Monday school was cancelled because of the snow, and we had to spend several hours shoveling the driveway and walkways. Menderes also made a pathway to the garbage cans. Otherwise we would have to wade through waist deep snow to access them. Ok, I guess it is not really waist deep for normal people, but it would be for me; I’m short!
Douglas’ solution for Kahlua was to dig a series of canyons through the yard, so that she can get out and do her business.
She is not thrilled about being out in the snow, but at least she is willing to use the new walkways. Before he dug them out, she was refusing to go into the snow.
I took Crème out to give her the chance to play in the snow as well.
She did not appreciate it very much.
This is not the first time that we have had to create canyons through the snow for our pets. Back when we first started dating we shoveled one out at Douglas’ old apartment. Sambucca and Freckles the Freak appreciated it. Do you see them both in this picture?
Freckles is difficult to see in the snow.
Their path ended in a wall of white.
So, do you think you will try our method? Do you have any snow in your backyard?
Happy Homemaking!
I thought freckles was yellow snow the first time I looked at the pic!
Poor Freckles! I miss that little girl.
Love the canyons! Our kitties are strictly in-door, although Darwin loves to go out on his leash in the nicer weather. He keeps asking to go out now, so I open the door a few inches and let him stick his head out. Within a few seconds the snow blows in on him and he bolts back into the nice, warm living room. Took me a few seconds to find Freckles in that first pic! She really did blend!
Crème usually only goes outside on a leash, but I knew that she would not be able to escape the snow canyon. I blocked the exits. She always thinks that she wants to go outside until she gets there, and then she is too scared to do anything.
I think I’ll need a little more than the thin dusting of snow we got that week to do that! Crème looks like she’s thinking “What on Earth is that cold stuff?”
Crème ran around like a maniac once she got back inside. She was obviously deeply disturbed by having been put out in the snow… or maybe she is just deeply disturbed.
Creme looks like she is staring daggers at which ever human subjected her to the cold wet stuff! Lol!
She was FURIOUS!!!
