Crying Cubs Fan Costume
This year I needed a costume that was easy to make and even easier to get into. Douglas had to work a football game in South Jersey on Saturday afternoon, and I was to accompany him in order to avoid having two cars at my uncle’s house in Long Island for the party. I had planned to make the costume earlier in the week, but of course, by Friday night I still had not done anything.
Since I had to work myself in the morning, I did not have much time. I quickly started throwing things in a bag. I also had to print out the patches to sew onto the t-shirt I had bought a couple of days before. Those were sewn on while I was sitting in the car after the football game, while Douglas did an evaluation on the player for a concussion.
When we got to Long Island, I changed into my costume in a diner. I was too self conscious to do my makeup there as well. Instead I put it on in the car in the parking lot. The look was simple. Douglas put some eye black on me and I put on a ton of mascara.
Then, I dripped water onto my eyes to make the mascara run. I also put powder in my hair. Do you get it? Waiting for the Cubs to win a World Series is giving me grey hair.
Douglas put his shirt on outside my aunt and uncle’s house.
For a couple of costumes that did not take much time or money, I think that we did pretty well.
If you would like to check out some of my previous costumes, last year I was Daenerys Targaryen, in 2013 Douglas and I dressed as a couple from Duck Dynasty, in 2012 we were a Zombie Bride and Groom.
Happy Halloween!
I like how you switched roles … but I think it would be easier to act like a bummed Cubs fan than it would a happy Mets fan, if you’re not!
It is hard for Douglas to act like a happy anything, but he pulled it off. There were several people who actually thought that he was a Mets fan.
Glad you explained the gray hair. I know a Cubbie; it takes fortitude to keep on cheering for the underdog. Jo @ Let’s Face the Music
I lived outside of Chicago for four years, so I know a lot of Cubs’ fans. I do feel badly for them, and I root for the Cubs when they are not playing the Mets.
