Curb Sale Mirror and Painted Dresser
For those of you who do not know what a curb sale is, it means taking something out of the trash or off of the curb. One man’s junk truly is one woman’s treasure in my book. A good deal of my cache comes out of the trash. Douglas used to cringe when I would call him and ask him if he could pick something up in his truck, because he knew that it was most likely is sitting on the curb somewhere. Of course, the good husband that he is, he often finds things now on his runs or bike rides, and he is the one telling me about them. Then again, yesterday on the way to a friend’s house, he covered my eyes when we passed a big pile of possible treasures on the side of the road. Sigh.
So, on Monday, I teased you with this picture. I was working on two projects that day.
One of my projects was to paint the frame of a mirror that I found on the curb while living in Manhattan.
Here is the frame with the mirror in it. I love the reflection of the trees.
My idea was to put the mirror on top of this dresser in the second bedroom. I bought the dresser for $10 from a friend while living in Lake Forest, Illinois. It was not in great condition, but I was able to re-glue several of drawers. I then painted it black and put new knobs on. The original knobs were wood. I bought brushed nickle knobs at Target for very little money. I think that they make the biggest statement. You can inexpensively transform any piece of furniture with nice knobs.
The frame is a little too wide for the dresser, but with some decoration, I think that it looks good. The plant was a gift from a neighbor, and I bought the pot at Ikea. I like to keep books in the guest room in case anyone is looking for a good read.
And if you are looking for something good to read, I highly recommend the fourth book down. The Borrower by Rebecca Makkai is a good book. I may be biased because she is a friend of mine, but I would not suggest that anyone read it if I didn’t truly enjoy it when I read it. This is her website if you would like to check it out on her website.
So, there is another project down! I hope you are inspired to do your own. And let me know what you are working on. I love to hear about other people’s ventures as well.
Happy Homemaking!
