DIY Fall Wreath II
On Wednesday I challenged you to guess what today’s project was. Did any of you guess a wreath?
Two years ago, I made a wreath out of leaves. I really liked it, but it was rather time consuming, and I never attempted it again. This year I was inspired to make a another wreath, but thankfully the design was simpler. I started out with a pre-made grapevine wreath. It was hard to take a picture of it without a cat in it.
They thought that it was the perfect bed for them.
As soon as one got out another climbed in.
Finally, I got a picture of the wreath sans chat. This is a wreath that I bought last fall. I forgot how much I paid, but I think it was less than five dollars.
The truth is that I had to distract them by bringing out the next ingredient. As soon, as I laid the corn on the floor both cats left the wreath alone to investigate the new item.
I had to remind them that the wreath was still there to get a picture of the corn. I purchased these three ears of corn already dried at the grocery store for $4.99.
After that, I had to gather my supplies. I could not find my floral wire. I decided that I would have to use the larger gauge wire.
Thankfully, while I was taking pictures, Douglas found the floral wire in the first place that I looked. I had forgotten that I had put it in a plastic container and was looking for loose wire in my drawers of craft supplies. Sometimes it does not pay to be organized.
I attached the ears of corn to the wreath by wrapping the wire around the wreath at the base of the husk and twisting it so that it would stay in place. It is not even noticeable.
Previously, I had hung the wreath on the door by placing it directly on the hook, but I was afraid that it would not hang straight with the corn hanging from the top. I used twine to fashion a loop. This took longer than it should have because someone got his claw caught in the twine and could not get it out.
Finally, the wreath was kitten free and ready to hang.
I think that it looks quite handsome on the door.
The Christmas wreath that I “made” last year hung on the door until I finally replaced the Christmas greenery with a baby head in October for Halloween. How long do you think my fall wreath will hang out there?
Happy Homemaking!
Awww, your kitties are so sweet. Your rug is gorgeous.
What a nice welcome on your front door. I wonder if squirrels will attempt to “harvest” the corn kernels.
Oh no! I did not even think of squirrels. They have not found the ears of corn yet. I will keep my fingers crossed.
ya, i’m wondering about squirrels too – my ratties LOVE dried corn. i need to DIY a wreath at some point! nice job!
This was an easy wreath to make. I am all about easy these days. My only consolation if the squirrels eat the corn is that that might mean that one more bulb survives, since they love to eat those as well!
So funny that you put something away in a perfect spot and couldn’t find it. Same here, always. It looks like you’ve got a nice cattage industry going in the wreath making. Jo @ Let’s Face the Music
Nice play with words. 😉 I wish that my workers had been a little bit more industrious, however. They were more interested in playing or taking a nap.
Simple and lovely! I’m not sure you’d have been able to make it without the help of your cats, though.
My cats do not think that I would be able to breathe without them. According to them they are the only things that keep me alive.
