DIY Graffiti Chair
I am sure that you have all seen a chair like this in the trash. They are a dime a dozen, and this one was in particularly bad condition when Douglas found it and brought it home. Actually, it was structurally sound, but it was filthy. Then, it sat beside the shed for a year or more until it was completely covered in mold/moss. I forgot to take a picture before I started to clean it, but here it is after some washing. It is disgusting, no?
I worked on this chair in between coats of paint on the director’s chairs. It took practically no time to get it cleaned up, but it was stained beyond repair.
I started to spray paint it red, but then I remembered that primer is not a good idea… it is a must! The primer was grey. I only did one coat with a spray can and did not worry about full coverage. I seem to have forgotten to take a full picture with just the primer, but here is a close up.
Then, I started to spray the chair red, but the paint ran out before I could do even one full coat. This was the end result.
The plan was to return to the hardware store the next day to purchase a new can of paint, but that never happened. The more that I looked at the chair, the more I liked it. I think that it looks kind of cool like this. I am going to call it a graffiti chair and pretend like I did it on purpose.
How do you like my Graffiti Chair? It is a piece of artwork, and I can make one for you for a couple of thousand dollars. Or you can make your own. Let me know how it goes.
Happy Homemaking!
Love it, Jess. See these chairs all the time, but not as nice as yours….See you soon.
I am glad someone appreciates it! π Most people’s reactions have been leaning toward horror, and I find it hysterical. It makes me want to graffiti the side of my shed.
Hahaha–I have to be honest–I think you should go buy more paint! π
Well, that is always an option. π
hahaha i love people who make things happen, whatever they may look like. If beauty is what you like then be it, it is in the eye of the beholder anyway. I would love to do what you did coz we have some emergency chairs like those. However, they seem to tarnish much faster in our hot climate and even if i use spray paint, which are expensive here, they might already be structurally weak, so they are already pollution to the environment.
They are a huge pollution to the environment. I would never buy any, but if they are unbroken I will pull them out of the trash. I only sprayed them rather haphazardly. There was no technique. I do not strive for perfect with outdoor furniture because I know that it will not last long.
I’m down with the chair but you need a “tag” to finish it off. Jo @ Let’s Face the Music
Great idea!
