First Day in the Garden
Last Thursday was a beautiful day. For the first time, it felt like spring when I arrived home. The plan was to recommence work in the bathroom as soon as I walked in the door, but I just could not force myself to go inside on such a nice day. Instead, I decided to clean out part of the garden. I focused on this small area.
The first step was to get the trash out of there. I walked around the yard and picked up everything. We love our neighbors, but a lot of their garbage does end up in our yard.
After that it was just a matter of pulling the leaves out of the garden bed. I could not believe that there were so many leaves in such a small area.
I also moved the mirrors so that they did not block any plants. Things look a lot better now.
Hopefully, the daffodils will recover.
Last fall, we placed a pot full of strawberry plants in a bin and covered it with leaves. There it sat for the next six months. When I removed the leaves I could not believe what I saw.
I expected to see a pot with a dormant strawberry plant that would reemerge once it was exposed to the sun again. Instead, I found a plant that was thriving despite the lack of light.
It is great to be back at work in the garden. I look for more of these days in the next weeks and months. Let there be sun!
Happy Homemaking!
Spring has finally arrived in Brittany as well! Gardens here we come!
This week has been cold and rainy again here. Hopefully, I can get back out there this weekend.
You made great progress! I’ve already had a few nice weekend days in the garden (it’s full-blown bloomin’ spring here), but I haven’t gotten past the dandelion-slaying stage. I’ll send you a big box of them if you want! 🙂
Lucky you with your blooms! Hopefully we are not far behind. If you must pull the dandelions, at least eat them!
Strawberries — woo hoo! Good call going out to the garden. We have blooming daffodils and iris spears. Spring is here at long last. Jo @ Let’s Face the Music
Here the irises have just begun to peep out of the ground. Same with the tulips and daffodils. Everything is behind this year.
Amazing about the strawberries! I will have to remember that for next year… bury pot with leaves… mine was just left out and it’s all brown and dead looking. I’m great with indoor plants but outdoor plants leave me baffled most of the time!
Don’t give up on them even if they are all brown and look dead. They will come back. Strawberries are hard to kill.
