Frustration

The original title of this post was “Frustration in the Bathroom.” Then, I thought about it and realized that did not sound that good.

Black trim in the bathroom

Last weekend I planned to paint the shelf so that I could install it. How does it look?

Badly painted shelf

From far away, it is not bad, but up close, the paint clumped. I am not sure why that happened. I used the same paint that I used on the door, and I even remembered to stir it. It just did not turn out well.

I need to sand it down and repaint it. I suppose I should use spray paint to make sure that I get a nice light even coat this time.

My hope is to get it up on the wall next to the medicine cabinet soon.

The other problem is that I bought a new to me vintage light fixture on eBay. However, it turns out that it is just a couple of inches too wide.

We are going to have to place it higher than the current light fixture, which means that we need to make a new hole and patch the old one. I am not sure when that is going to happen.

Wish us luck. We need a lot of it!

Happy Homemaking!

I am a teacher, traveler, artist, writer, homemaker and a whole lot more. In January 2009, I bought the Cape of Dreams. It was the second house that I had ever owned, but it was the first that I bought by myself. I now live in the house with my husband Douglas, our dog Kahlua, and Crème de Menthe, the cat. Because, what life is complete without a little Kahlua and Cream? I love arts and crafts of all kinds, and I refinish furniture as well. We are slowly redoing our entire house. 1. Gilda Radner’s character Rosann Rosannadanna on SNL used to say, “it’s always something!” and that certainly seems to be the case when we are redoing houses.

    Good luck!

  2. Oh, I know how frustrated we can be when things don’t go as fast as we want. My shop made an error in my last paint order and now I have a fully sanded and dismantled dining-room table and I can’t paint it! Good luck with sanding the shelf!

  3. I have had paint clump and drag when I first started painting the new kitchen cabinets. My solution was to buy the most expensive paint I could find! 🙂 I hope you don’t have to do that!

    • This is pretty expensive paint and it spread beautifully on the door. I am going to give it another go next weekend. I was too frustrated to try this weekend.

  4. The paint clumping makes no sense to me. You can thin it maybe. Your new fixture is neat looking. Are those candelabra bulb bases? What would we learn if everything went according to plans? Who cares what we’d learn, I’d be frustrated too. I want it and I want it NOW! Jo @ Let’s Face the Music

    • That is actually only half of the light fixture. There is a glass piece that goes in front. Hopefully, we will have it done soon so that I can show you. In the meantime, we with both have to work on patience with our respective projects.
