Garden Update for June
Jessi, Jessi, not quite messy, how does your garden grow?
It was my goal this year to take better care of my garden. So far, I am living up to the challenge. My flowers in the front are a riot of color.
The lillies are particularly beautiful. The butterfly bush and these purple coneflowers are also starting to bloom.
The three new plants in the front are going strong and the purple cleomes that Douglas was gifted are pretty. You know how I love purple.
In the back yard, the veggie gardens are doing well. However, the salad bed of tomatoes and lettuce had an explosion of volunteer tomato plants. The only explanation that I can think of is that there must have been some tomatoes in the compost.
I broke my heart to pull out all of those strong, healthy plants, but it had to be done so that the other plants can thrive. Here is the bucket full of tomato plants and other weeds that I pulled.
The bed now looks much cleaner.
Besides lettuce and arugula, last week we started eating the snow peas. The sugar snap peas are not quite ready, but I have a feeling we will be able to start eating them this weekend.
The squash, peppers and tomatoes are also coming along. Fresh fruits and vegetables are the very best part of summer.
Now, I am off to make sour cherry scones with the last of the cherries from our tree. Last week I made sour cherry pancakes. I wish I had taken a picture of them. They were yummy!
Happy Homemaking!
You’re taking very good care of your veg and flora — so neat. Our is a riot of carefully tended squares and weedy aisles. Jo @ Let’s Face the Music
I’m trying!!! It is hard work, isn’t it?
Wow your garden is looking amazing, snow peas? Are they the equivalent to mange toute? Hope your enjoying your summer break x
They seem to be mange toute. They are popular in Asian cuisine. Summer is wonderful! I hope you are enjoying it as well.
Ooh–cherry scones! Can I come over? I have come to grips with the fact that for the first year in ages, we will not get a garden planted. 🙁 But we do have purple potatoes, blueberries, sweet peppers, and tons of cherry tomatoes and Interlaken grapes. The weather has been SO hot and dry … very unusual.
That sounds like a pretty good garden to me! I would love to have you over for cherry scones. When can you make it?!
NYC is on our short list of places to visit. It’s possible that we might come your way in the fall of 2016! When are you guys coming to Seattle??
Hopefully soon! It will be 2016 at the earliest. I am excited that you are planning to come here!!!!! You are welcome to stay with us if you would like.
sour cherry scones… *swoon* those sound divine!
everything is looking amazing! love your front garden with all the colors. love seeing your garden updates!
We ate the scones this morning. They were mighty tasty if I may say so myself.
I’m a little jealous as my garden isn’t as neat as yours this year. ut you encourage me to do better next year!
Mine gets a little bit better every year. I have a lot left to learn.
