Garden Work
The past couple of days at home have been wonderful. The mornings are particularly enjoyable as I do not have to rush around. I can enjoy my coffee in bed and read for a while before going to yoga. In the afternoons, we have mostly been working in the yard and gardens. Of course I have, because the yard and garden were not on the list I made on Monday! Rather than focus on the fact that I am not sticking to my plan, let’s look at what I have accomplished.
The above photos are what the garden looked like at the beginning of the week. Since then, I have moved several of the tomato plants around. I originally had them too close together. It is hard not to crowd the garden when the plants start out so small. I always feel that things are too far apart and forget that they are going to grow. I am learning!
The new asparagus and arugula are going strong. I like the alliterative names for the plants in this space. I might refer to this as the AA garden from now on.
The herbs in the pots are growing well, with the exception of the rosemary. It shows no sign of making an appearance. I might have to go buy another plant.
Besides the vegetable gardens I have been cleaning up the flower gardens, weeding and removing the dead foliage. I don’t have pictures of that, but here are some pics of fruit that is forming. Here we have grapes, sour cherries and raspberries.
Besides that, we have strawberries! This is our greatest crop of berries yet, and Douglas’ cagey cages have kept the birds from devouring them all this year. We ate the first three on Monday.
I am not the only one that has been working in the garden. Douglas expanded one of the front gardens. He was finding it too hard to mow around the goji berry bush. I think the real reason is that he wants less grass to mow.
He also trimmed the bush below our bedroom window. At least the bush is supposed to be below the window. It was starting to creep up, and I did not want it blocking my light. Douglas found that the easiest way to trim it is from inside the bedroom.
Therefore the yard is looking great. Now I just have to find the motivation to do the rest of my work.
Happy Homemaking!
Will someone please let her know it is ok to have rest and relaxation days, and days where you do something that is not on the projects list? She doesn’t seem to believe me… 🙂
I don’t need anyone to tell me. My body let me know this week!
Ha! Yes, relaxation days are important. Sometimes it’s hard to remember that. Especially when you’re “on a roll”!
Love the strawberry plant(s) – yum!!!!!
All the gardens are looking fantastic!
The strawberries are delicious! I can’t wait to start eating everything else.
I’m pretty sure those R&R days must be planned. Please put that on the list. Jo @ Let’s Face the Music
They are on the list! I am leaving Douglas and the chores behind and going back to Maryland this weekend with my mother.
You’re so right to take care of the garden when it’s sunny, no matter what’s on the list!
You’re right. It has been lovely out.
