Halloween Decorations 2014

Halloween has been my favorite holiday since I was a kid. Normally I cannot wait to decorate the house for the occasion. This year was different. Three weeks into October, I just was not feeling the Halloween vibe. I made the spider web in September, but it was something that I had wanted to do since January and not just for Halloween.

I also stuffed a shirt and a pair of pants with leaves and called it a Halloween scarecrow, but that did not require much work.

Luckily my lethargy lifted, and Halloween has come to my house. I still have some plans to do more, but at least It has begun.

Menderes helped me to cover the mirrors in cobwebs and place spiders in them. This was a huge sacrifice on his part because he is terrified of spiders. Those are his words. I told him that this was therapy.

I covered books in black tissue paper and homemade book covers that my mother and I made last year, but I never blogged about. I plan to put scarier pictures in the frames, but I am not sure if that will ever happen.

I also scattered skulls around the shelves.

The skulls were purchased at Buddhas and Beads in Ocean City, MD. It is a wonderful store that I highly recommend if you are in the area. I was tempted to buy thousands of skulls because they were reasonably priced, but I refrained.

The last touch was to cover the chairs in white sheets and torn cheesecloth.

Nine more days to go, is your house decorated for Halloween?

Happy Homemaking!

I am a teacher, traveler, artist, writer, homemaker and a whole lot more. In January 2009, I bought the Cape of Dreams. It was the second house that I had ever owned, but it was the first that I bought by myself. I now live in the house with my husband Douglas, our dog Kahlua, and Crème de Menthe, the cat. Because, what life is complete without a little Kahlua and Cream? I love arts and crafts of all kinds, and I refinish furniture as well. We are slowly redoing our entire house. 1. Wow! I finally got some Halloween decor on the mantel. You really went all out.

I love the idea of the book covers and might add some covered books to my mantel.

    Make it a great day!

    • The book covers were fun to make since I was working with my mother. We did not do much detail, but I might add some more later. Halloween is just so much fun for me. 🙂 Can’t wait to see what you do.

  2. What???? Only nine more days! Really? I’ve done nothing… The weather has been so nice, I hadn’t realised Halloween was so close… At least, I need to buy candy for the kids! My decorations might be limited to a few cats on pillows… I love the book covers you made and those pictures of you and dear hubby… scary 😉

    • Do they celebrate Halloween in your part of France? I just had some friends move here from France, and where they lived it was not celebrated. I would not worry about it if I were you. Make your cats do the work this year and say that you are a crazy cat lady! Of course, you really don’t have enough cats for that.
