It’s Almost the Weekend
After a fun week in South Carolina and a hellishly long ride home, we have been back at school for a five days now. It is always difficult to return to work after a vacation. It is especially hard when you have to spend your evenings putting your house back together after tiling the kitchen. The job took us longer than we expected, and we were not able to finish before leaving for S.C. (You can read about our tiling exploits in one, two, three posts, if you missed them.) Our house was a mess, but the kitchen floor looked great! Crème is our “floor model,” and she has some new bling, as in a name tag.
We spent this week putting the appliances and everything else back in the kitchen.
Douglas also finished installing the new dishwasher. It feels so good to cross one more thing off of the project list.
I am thrilled with how the kitchen looks. However, there are still a few things that need done. The most important is find a transition to put in the doorway. The tile in the kitchen is now slightly higher than the wood floor, so the piece that was there does not fit anymore.
We also have to find a new door mat. The door can no longer open with this one. I am sad because I really liked this grass mat.
Other than the transition and door mat, we are now done in the kitchen for a little while. There is still so much to finish, but it is going to be a while before we have the time. The next step in the kitchen renovation is to make a pull-out drawer to fit between the stove and the cabinet to the left. The stove that was there originally was much bigger, and now there is just a space with a false front. I looked online, but the cheapest one that I found was about $800, and I would still have to make a front for it. I am sure that I can build a cabinet that is cheaper and well-constructed.
This weekend is going to be exciting. We are getting new windows!
Happy Homemaking!
The floor looks beautiful! And Creme looks beautiful on the floor! With her little pink heart tag, she and Lacy look even MORE identical.
Thank you. I wonder if I will ever have a post that does not include Crème. She just hates to be left out of anything. Even when I am working in the garden, I can always spot her little longing face peeking out of the window.
