Je t’adoor – Amo la puerta

Yes, I know that I spelled the French incorrectly. It is supposed to be a play on words. Did you get it? I love my door. I am not sure why I did not paint it earlier. Oh, yes I do, it is because I am lazy! The door looked terrible, but I just never took the time to do anything about it.

Living room on a winter's day

So, while I was working on the house numbers, Douglas spackled and sanded the door to prep it for paint. He did so under strict observation, as always.

The next weekend, I started priming the door. We were blessed with a snow day, so I was able to paint on a Friday.

Priming the door

Ponche kept an eye on me, except when he heard Douglas take out the camera. Then, he was all about posing. He is so vain.

Priming the door

Even with just the primer, the door looked better, and I was anxious to see what it would look like with the paint.

A day later, the door was ready for paint.

Painting the door

My little buddy was back by my side. At one point he decided that sitting on the table was not close enough. He came up to inspect closer and ended up with paint on his paws. I did not realize until I saw little paw prints on the hardwood floor. Luckily, there were no prints on the carpet. Douglas hauled him off to wash his feet while I rushed to remove the paint from the floor. There are no pictures of that disaster, but luckily all of the paint came off the floor… and the cat.

Painting the door

The door looked beautiful. I still wanted to give it one last coat of paint just to make sure that it was fully covered.

On Sunday, the last coat of paint went on the door. To keep Ponche out of the paint, I locked both of the cats in the little bedroom. They were not very happy with me, but they ended up taking a nap, so I don’t think that it was too awful for them.

Cats curled on the bed

I could not believe when it was finally finished. It gave me the chills to see it looking so pretty. I just wanted to sit on the chaise and look at it. And that it just what I did for a couple of hours. Is that weird?

Me daba escalofríos mirarla.

On Tuesday, we had another snow day, and I took advantage of the extra time to work on a couple of projects. I will tell you more about them later. I will show you one final picture of the living room after I put the wreath and my bells back up.

The cats were inspecting the new door mat. I bought this last fall, and it has been in the hall. After I painted the door, I was about to put back the ugly door mat that we have had there for a while, but I thought that it deserved something prettier.

Crème agreed that this mat was much better. She refused to get off of it for a while and would probably still be there if Ponche had not attacked her. Little brothers are such a pain.

I lied. I am going to show you another picture of the door before I sign off. Isn’t it beautiful?

About

I am a teacher, traveler, artist, writer, homemaker and a whole lot more. In January 2009, I bought the Cape of Dreams. It was the second house that I had ever owned, but it was the first that I bought by myself. I now live in the house with my husband Douglas, our dog Kahlua, and Crème de Menthe, the cat. Because, what life is complete without a little Kahlua and Cream? I love arts and crafts of all kinds, and I refinish furniture as well. We are slowly redoing our entire house. 1. you forgot to mention the high blood loss I suffered while trying to clean the paint off of Ponche’s feet. To say he was unhappy with my efforts would be a gross understatement…

  2. The door looks great — seems like you have a bigger space now. I, too, put off small tasks and am blown away by their relative simplicity in relation to their wow factor once they’re finished. You’re on a roll. Jo @ Let’s Face the Music

  3. It’s not a complete paint job until a black cat gets into it. Lacy and Crosby will attest to that. The door looks great–fresh and shiny! It’s not weird at all to sit and admire it. I do that occasionally with our dining room. Maybe that’s why it’s taking me so long to finish?

    • Crème was surprisingly absent for the painting of the door. Perhaps she has learned her lesson? Nah, I’m sure she’ll be back in the paint next time.

  4. well done, brightens that corner, what a tall door,
    how nice to have “helpers”
hopefully your pets leave your pretty plants alone

    • Crème usually leaves the plants alone. Ponche thinks it’s fun to knock the leaves off the jade plant and bat them around the house. He’s such a pain.
