Kayak Shed – Part IV – Cobertizo – Parte IV

The drama of the kayak shed continues. Just to recap, on August 06 we built the base. Then, on August 07 we built the frame.

Then, I waited for Douglas to initiate the next step. And I waited and waited and waited. Douglas has many qualities, but getting things done is not one of them. Finally, on August 28, I could not wait any longer, and I told him that he would be working on the shed. It had to be him because he created the plans. The first step was to cut the posts to size. The cuts had to be made at an angle because the roof needs to be slanted. Douglas measured, and then we snapped a chalk line.

Después, yo esperaba que Douglas iniciara el siguiente paso. Y esperaba y esperaba y esperaba. Douglas tiene muchas cualidades, pero completar los proyectos no es una de ellas. The first cut went well, but the second did not. I told Douglas that he was cutting in the wrong direction for the angle, but he did not listen to me. It turned out that I was right. Luckily, we are not building a rocket ship, so it does not have to be perfect.

El primer corte fue bien, pero el segundo no. Le dije a Douglas que estaba cortando en la dirección opuesta y que el ángulo iba a estar a revés, pero no me escuchó. Al final, yo tenía razón. Lo bueno es que no estamos construyendo un cohete, así que no tiene que ser perfecto.

Once the cuts we made, Douglas put the cross pieces on. They all had to be cut at an angle on both sides.

Una vez que había hecho los cortes, Douglas instaló los travesaños. Tenía que cortarlos con el mismo ángulo en los dos lados.

While this was going on, I was inside working, and would go out every once in a while to take pictures. Although, I could not be more involved, there was an inspector not exactly on site but at least at the window. Ponche sat there for hours keeping an eye on Douglas’ every move. Of course, as soon as I tried to take a picture, he turned around.

Mientras Douglas estaba allí, yo estaba en la casa trabajando en mis proyectos. Salía a cada cuanto para sacar fotos, pero había un inspector no allí, pero en la ventana. Ponche estaba en la ventana por horas vigilando el progreso de Douglas. Claro que se volteó una vez que intenté sacar la foto.

I am not sure if I will be able to write regular updates about this kayak shed. One of the biggest problems for Douglas and I is that I like to get s— done, and Douglas likes to put things off for years. I try to give him space to finish his projects, but it is HARD! Any suggestions?

No sé si voy a poder seguir con las actualizaciones del cobertizo. Uno de los problemas más grandes para Douglas y mí es que a mí me gusta hacer las cosas de una vez y a Douglas le gusta posponer todo por años. Intento darle tiempo para terminar sus proyectos, pero ¡es DIFÍCIL! ¿Tienes alguna sugerencia?
