Light up my Life – Ilumina mi vida
Our front porch light has not been working for a while. It seems like it stopped functioning a couple of months ago, but that means that it could have been years. My sense of time is not the best. I did not get a picture of the old lamp, but you can kind of see what it looked like from a distance.
La lámpara que tenemos enfrente de la casa no había funcionado por un buen rato. Parece haber dejado de funcionar hace unos meses, pero podía haber sido unos años. Me es difícil calcular el tiempo. No tengo una foto de la lámpara vieja, pero se puede ver de lejos en esta foto.
Recently my mom bought new porch lamps, and I really liked them. That was the impetus for me to finally buy some for our house. I found the exact same lamp that she bought, by a different brand name on Amazon.
Recientemente, mi mama compró unas nuevas luces para su casa, y me gustaban mucho. Eso fue el ímpetu para que yo comprara unas para nuestra casa. Encontré las mismas lámparas que ella compró, pero de otra marca y más baratas en Amazon.
Something could have been wrong with the box that they sent us. Ponche investigated thoroughly to make sure that everything checked out. Luckily for us, everything passed inspection, and we were able to install the new lamp.
Pudiera haber habido un problema con la caja que nos mandaron así que Ponche tuvo que investigarla con esmero para asegurarse de que todo estuviera bien. Gracias a dios, todo se aprobó y pudimos instalar la nueva lámpara.
Or rather Douglas installed the new lamp with me standing beside him to hold things and take pictures.
O quiero decir que Douglas lo instaló y que yo me paraba al lado de él para sujetar cosas y sacar fotos.
I really like the new light fixture, and I am particularly happy that it turns on. That is the best feature to have in an appliance as far as I am concerned.

One thing that needs to change is that the shingle that the light is affixed to is slanted, which means that the lamp is at an angle. When we have the house painted in a couple of months, or years if we stick with our m.o., we will place a shim behind the lamp so that it will sit level.
Una cosa que necesitamos cambiar es que la madera en que se sienta está de un ángulo que significa que la lámpara está de un ángulo. Cuando pintamos la casa en unos meses, o en unos años para ser sincera, pondremos una calza de madera detrás de la luz para que se siente a nivel.
In the meantime, I am enjoying the light.

It looks good, plus you’re going to love being able to swap that lamp out from below, without taking the fixture apart.
That is so important. I forgot to mention it, but that was a consideration when choosing the fixtures. It is also nice that they are motion sensored from dusk to dawn.
I like it! I am embarrassed to admit that we have an ugly bare bulb in our porch ceiling fixture. We have an extension in the socket that provides a receptacle for plugging in outdoor power tools, which makes the whole contraption hard to replace (we can’t find a fixture with a receptacle). So stylish!
That socket is a really nice feature. We do not have any electrical sockets outside, and it has been a problem. I wonder why they do not make more fixtures like that?
