Like New Cabinets

The kitchen is looking great! Just imagine that there is a sink and a beautiful backsplash.

If that is hard for you to do, just focus on the cabinets. Beautiful, no?

Newly refinished wooden kitchen cabinets

It took me about two weeks, but I finally got the cabinets refinished and the hardware polished. It would have taken me less time, but I am working full time and taking care of a sick husband. It required several hours free to do this.

Polishing kitchen cabinets

Two weeks ago, I shared with you how I cleaned the cabinets with Murphy’s Oil Soap and polished them with Restor-A-Finish. They were looking  much better.

However, last Saturday, I took the final step of rubbing them down with Feed-N-Wax. Gorgeous. I took this picture only five minutes after the first in the exact same light and with the same camera settings. The Feed-N-Wax allows it to shine.

Here are some pictures from before doing anything and after I completely finished. I tried to take them from the same angle as much as possible.

Douglas and I also polished all of the hardware. First, we used Bar Keepers Friend, but the handles were still not as bright as I wanted. I went back to the store and bought Brasso. Much better! We did it while watching t.v. in a couple of evenings. Several people suggested that we replace the hardware, but I like it. The handles are high quality. As I was cleaning them, I realized that the handles were made in Canada. See the stamp on the back.

It was easy to reattach the the hardware.

The cabinets look brand new except with more character. Does that make sense?

I am a teacher, traveler, artist, writer, homemaker and a whole lot more. In January 2009, I bought the Cape of Dreams. It was the second house that I had ever owned, but it was the first that I bought by myself. I now live in the house with my husband Douglas, our dog Kahlua, and Crème de Menthe, the cat. Because, what life is complete without a little Kahlua and Cream? I love arts and crafts of all kinds, and I refinish furniture as well. We are slowly redoing our entire house. 1. Jess: You and Senior did a wonderful job. So glad you reused the cabinets and especially the hardware! Looks wonderful.

    • Thank you, Susan! I am glad that we were able to reuse them as well. It saved us a ton of money and was good for the environment. My only regret is that they don’t go all the way to the ceiling, but oh well.
