Little Progress on the Cat Jungle Gym

Last week I announced that the next project would be the cat jungle gym in our basement. I had the best intentions of starting that project, but I forgot that our number one priority had to be the bookcase that was scattered in pieces across our living room. It also slipped my mind that we are working full time and that Douglas is editing a newsletter and that I am also coaching right now, as well as editing the yearbook and planning a language immersion trip to Costa Rica for my students. Besides all my work, I am trying to stay faithful to my plan to lose twenty pounds this year and have been going to the gym regularly. By that I mean that I have been going whenever I do not have a swim meet, evening meeting or snow day. In other words, if I get there more than once a week it is a miracle.

Before you get sick of all my excuses, let me show you that we have made progress. One night last week, I took a break from grading and started to finish wrapping the last post. As you can see, I wrapped right over the rings holding the brackets for Crème’s perch. Unfortunately, I am vertically challenged, or in other words extremely short, which meant that Douglas had to continue past the point where I could no longer reach.

Crème could not wait for the post to be finished and began climbing immediately. Even the threat of Douglas hot gluing her whiskers did not deter her. She is pretty excited about this project!

She thought that the twine was a great plaything as well. I am really surprised that she survived as Douglas was ready to strangle her.

Despite all of Crème’s “help” he finally made it to the top.

Another bonus is that I prefer the aesthetic of the wrapped posts. Here you can see both posts together, with the original perch in the foreground.

Organizing the basement

I knew that it was going to be a couple of weeks before we got the walkway between the posts completed. I was hoping that we would at least have a chance to attach the perch to the brackets. Alas, it was not meant to be… maybe next week.

Happy Homemaking!

P.S. When I returned home from my meeting yesterday evening, Douglas was in the midst of a project that required a little help from me, and Crème to finish. I am so excited about this one and cannot wait to show you next week.

I am a teacher, traveler, artist, writer, homemaker and a whole lot more. In January 2009, I bought the Cape of Dreams. It was the second house that I had ever owned, but it was the first that I bought by myself. I now live in the house with my husband Douglas, our dog Kahlua, and Crème de Menthe, the cat. Because, what life is complete without a little Kahlua and Cream? I love arts and crafts of all kinds, and I refinish furniture as well. We are slowly redoing our entire house. 1. Your life sounds sooooo busy! I don’t know how you find time to do any DIY! Love the progress on Crème’s poles & platforms! She seems VERY happy 🙂 Looking forward to next week’s post!

    • I do not know how I find time to do any DIY! I only know that is what makes me happy so I try to fit it in no matter how crazy things get. It does mean that I am not always sane!

  2. Your personal quest for weight loss and fitness should reign supreme. The other things will get done but I know how difficult it is to maintain good habits with all the other stuff that beckons us. Jo @ Let’s Face the Music

  3. Looks like Crème is just as excited about the bookcase! Love those pix of her clinging like a limpet to the poles. They really do look nice wrapped like that. Relax a little this weekend!
