May Day in the Garden

It is said that “April showers bring May flowers,” and it certainly seems to be true here in Westchester, New York.

We suffered through a lot of cold rainy weather last month, but it feels like the ancient past now that the sun is shining and the flowers are popping.

As is the case on most sunny Saturdays, Douglas and I could be found working in the garden.Β He mowed the lawn.

I trimmed. Yes, I do it by hand because I refuse to use a Weed Wacker. I hate listening to power tools.

We still do not have any plants in the vegetable garden, but I am hoping to start planting them this week.

The sprouts are still doing well indoors, and I have been taking them outside during the day to harden them so that they survive in the garden bed.

For now, we are enjoying the flowers.

The flowers that make me happiest are the blooms on my sour cherry tree. I was so afraid that I was going to kill it when I trimmed it. I am thrilled that it is still alive and promising some fruit this summer.

About

I am a teacher, traveler, artist, writer, homemaker and a whole lot more. In January 2009, I bought the Cape of Dreams. It was the second house that I had ever owned, but it was the first that I bought by myself. I now live in the house with my husband Douglas, our dog Kahlua, and Crème de Menthe, the cat. Because, what life is complete without a little Kahlua and Cream? I love arts and crafts of all kinds, and I refinish furniture as well. We are slowly redoing our entire house. • The cherry tree was gorgeous! I did not get a picture of it in full bloom unfortunately, since I was at school late every day last week. I am sure you remember how crazy the end of the school year is!

  1. Yay! Cherry blossoms! πŸ™‚ We haven’t planted the veggies yet, either, but it’s suppose to get to 77 degrees this weekend, so it’s time!! Of course last weekend I overdid and tweaked my back. πŸ™

    • Take care of yourself. I hope you were able to get things done this weekend. We had gorgeous weather here, but I was too busy having fun to plant anything.
