Memorial Day Party
Happy belated Memorial Day to you all. I hope that you had a good weekend, even those of you in other countries who did not celebrate the sacrifice that our soldiers make this weekend.
Douglas and I had a barbecue on Sunday- just a little get together with some dear friends.
One guest of honor was my friend Lorena. We have been friends for over twenty two years now. She studied with me in high school in Venezuela.
Lorena and two of her boys were kind enough to come early and help us set up. The boys erected the badminton net in the front yard, while Lorena and I chopped many vegetables.
Lorena took this picture of some of our veggies once they were grilled.
The beef that Douglas prepared was glorious. He brined the slab for four days, marinated it for thirty six hours and finally smoked the beast for hours on Sunday. The end result was divine.
Our get together was laid back and mostly consisted of delicious food, good beverages and excellent company. Those are the best ingredients for a party in my mind.
Here is Douglas at his grilling and smoking station. He did not get to enjoy the company as much, but he does love to feed people. Luckily, people adore being fed by him, as he is a top chef. Not only did he do all of the grilling, but he also prepared a mean mixed grain salad.
Our guests were not limited to the human kind. Our friend Star was here visiting for the weekend since her mothers went to Cape Cod for the holiday.
Kahlua and Crème spent most of the day locked in the bedroom. Kahlua was there because that is where she prefers to be, but Crème had to be there because she kept trying to escape whenever someone opened the door. At the end of the night, they joined us in the basement for some family time.
Here is a picture of Kahlua and Star snuggling on the couch the next day. They look exactly how I felt- exhausted! Parties are fun but tiring.
Here are some final pictures from the party.
Happy Homemaking!
