My Sister’s House
My sister, Jenilyn, and brother in law, Jason, have an awesome house. They are an inspiration for me. I love visiting their home, and while I was there this weekend, I asked my sister if I could take some pictures to share with you. Before we start, I must add a disclaimer. These pictures were taken hurriedly before I left on Monday. The day was overcast, so the colors are not a good as they could be. Neither did I have my good camera or edit these pictures. Also, my sister and brother in law have been working full time, visiting my father regularly and caring for four ailing animals, one of which is at the end of her life. Therefore, things are not as clean as they normally are, and they did not have time to stage things. Therefore, we will focus on particular vignettes rather than entire rooms. I hope you enjoy your visit to the 504 in the 405.
We enter into the living room.
Straight through the living room is the dining room.
From there you enter the kitchen.
I love the light fixtures in these three rooms. You might notice the similarity to mine.
Down the hall is the bathroom. I would never paint any room in my house these orangy yellow, but I love this room. The little details make the room. I would steal this light fixture in a heart beat. It was originally in their living room.
These picture are of their bedroom. Can you tell how awesome that lamp is?
This is yet another light that I covet. Jenilyn bought the light bulb at a flea market. Why aren’t they making light bulbs like this any more?
Here are some of the details in Lucy’s room.
They had to take the futon out of the room and put the mattress on the floor for Lucy. She has several tumors and is no longer able to use one paw. Despite her ailments, she still seems to be enjoying life and purred away while I was petting her.
This is my favorite room. I know that most people are ripping out all the knotty pine in their houses, but I think that this room has so much character.
At the back of the house is the “Community Center.” It was my bedroom for the weekend.
I shared the room with my niece Martha. Here she is snuggling me on our last night together. She made sure that I would not miss my babies too much.
I did not take many pictures in the back yard, because the garden is dying down for the fall. Here are a couple of things that caught my eye. I love the catfish. Unfortunately, we never got around to taking a picture of me “noodling” it. If you are not sure what that means, you should google “Okie Noodling.” There is a great documentary.
I hope that you enjoyed the brief tour. Maybe Jason will take better pictures to share with you another time. He is not only a drummer, but also a great photographer.
Happy Homemaking!
what a cool, eclectic house! it reminds me of yours! thanks for the tour, hope your dad is continuing to recover well.
My dad is doing well. It was good to see him and staying at my sister’s house is always fun.
You sisters have almost the entire color spectrum covered except maybe blue. Jo @ Let’s Face the Music
It’s funny that you mention the lack of blue because we actually talked about it. Blue was my sister’s favorite color forever, and ALL of her clothes were blue. Then she realized that it isn’t the best color for her skin tone and doesn’t wear it anymore. I have always worn a lot of red because it gets me the most compliments. I guess we decorate with what makes us look best! No blue was not a conscious choice for either of us.
Hi Jessica, sorry only just caught up on your posts. I am so pleased your dad is recovering and you are ok after everything that has been happening. Gosh you can tell the family resemblance in your decor. I love it all so unique and inspiring. Best wishes to you and your family x
There are a lot of similarities in our decor for sure. It’s funny because we were very different as kids. Thanks for thinking of us.
I love Jenilyn’s house! Such style, and yes, that style does remind me of yours. I would totally wear those vintage eyeglasses!
The person that wore those glasses was blind as a bat. It hurts your eyes to wear them, but you can get some funny pictures. I think Jeni should get her prescription put in them because the frames are awesome.
The prescription looks like the one my grandmother had when she had cataract surgery back in the ’70s. At that time they didn’t replace the lens just gave you thick glasses. Jo @ Let’s Face the Music
The sign “I should have danced all night” made me laugh!
That is hysterical.
