Nighttime Christmas Tour 2014

Welcome to the Cape of Dreams. This is what I return home to every night. It is so cheery to see the Christmas lights brightening my windows.

As you near the front door, you can see my red light through the window. Thankfully, no one has confused our house with the red light district yet.

When you walk into the living room you are greeted by the sight of Menderes on his computer. This is where you can find him every night after swim practice.

The living room is flooded with red. The china cabinet is filled with holiday cards from years past.

I never got around to hanging the stockings anywhere, but I do not mind having them them lined up along the sofa.

Having a kitten on a red chaise lounge just adds the perfect Christmas touch, don’t you think?

While we are on the subject of the cat, here is proof why I was smart to decorate my tree with only balls this Christmas. It would not do to have anything breakable hung there as I find at least one ball on the floor every day. Crème blames Menderes.

Let us get a closer look at the dining room and the tree, shall we?

The tree is framed by the paper holly garland I made last year. I also wrapped the books to look somewhat like presents and put more cards on them.

I spend most of my evenings down in the basement where the television is on in the background as I grade or write blog posts. This is the first year that we have decorated down here. I love having my little tree. Douglas adorned it with purple lights.

We also strung light along the ceiling. It is very dormlike, but it works in the basement. The ceiling lights change color which switches the ambiance.

The last stop on our tour is the bedroom. It is cozy as can be with a down comforter and velvet spread on the bed.

I love curling up in bed with my book, it by the glow of the lights on my little purple tree.

Have you finished decorating your house? Are you enjoying the season? I have three more days of school and then I will enjoy it a lot more!

Happy Holidays!

P.S. I am sharing this with Wow Us Wednesdays.

About

I am a teacher, traveler, artist, writer, homemaker and a whole lot more. In January 2009, I bought the Cape of Dreams. It was the second house that I had ever owned, but it was the first that I bought by myself. I now live in the house with my husband Douglas, our dog Kahlua, and Crème de Menthe, the cat. Because, what life is complete without a little Kahlua and Cream? I love arts and crafts of all kinds, and I refinish furniture as well. We are slowly redoing our entire house. 1. I have not finished decorating yet and would love to call it “a wrap”. Next items — ornaments on the tree. I’m thinking of using some ribbon this year if I don’t run out of time. Your house looks like fun and so welcoming. Have a great Christmas holiday. Jo @ Let’s Face the Music

  2. My favorite thing about Christmas decorations is the glow of the lights. Your house looks so warm and magical! It’s a great idea to put lights in other rooms. I’ve never done that or even thought of it! Hope your last three days of work go swiftly and your holiday break goes slowly! 🙂

    • I never decorated any other rooms until I moved to this house, but when I was a kid my mother would put an electric in each window. I really like having lights in other rooms. Maybe next year I will do the kitchen too.
