Painting the Porch
This project took place over Columbus Day weekend, but I am a little backed up on my posts. We have just been getting too much done lately! Actually, if I am going to be one hundred percent honest, this project started in March 2014, and we are woefully behind in our projects.
Douglas started painting the porch in November 2014 when he was supposed to be painting the kitchen but was unable to finish.
This is what the porch looked like in August when I published the yearly house tour.
On the morning of October 11, Douglas started painting in the morning.
While he was painting, I was cleaning the porch. First I had to take everything off.
Then, I cleaned the furniture.
I had just finished sweeping the porch when Douglas noticed that there were a bunch of leaves caught on the porch roof. He wanted to try to brush them off with the broom handle, but I had to climb up on the roof to sweep them off.
The porch, steps and lawn were a real mess after that.
In the meantime, Douglas was finishing the painting. Look at that concentration.
The porch trim and rails were looking great, but the floor… not so much. We are going to have to replace it soon. Douglas wanted to try to patch, caulk and paint it, but I think that will not be worth all of the money and time that we will have to spend on it. We might as well use the time and the money to put on a brand new floor and not have to worry about it for a long, long time.
As soon as the painting was finished, I brought all of the furniture back up.
The porch looks much better. We are going to have to replace the doors and wall under the porch when we do the floor, but I am not going to worry about that right now. It will most likely happen in the spring.
Happy Homemaking!
looks great!
🙂 And it only took 19 months!
A little paint can make such a big difference. Everything looks so fresh. Jo @ Let’s Face the Music
What would we do without paint?
Feels better, huh? Your porch floor is in about the same shape as our front porch floor: not great. Ideally we want to replace the boards with Azek porch boards … but it would cost thousands. 🙁 So I think we will sand, patch, sand, etc. It’ll have to wait until spring.
We are going to use tongue and groove fir flooring. Our porch is tiny, so it won’t be that much to replace. Or at least that is what we are telling ourselves now!
A fresh coat of white makes everything better!
If only it would stay that way!
