Painting the Shutters
A couple of weeks ago Douglas and I started our painting projects around the exterior of the house that led us to the conclusion that we needed to hire a house painter. As far as I am concerned, it will be money well spent because painting is not fun.
When we started this project the plan was to get the shutters back on the house for the winter, and then we would paint the house ourselves next summer. So, I started painting the shutters while Douglas painted the spots behind the shutters. It appears that the house was at one time forest green, and they just painted the shutters onto the house at that time, causing the paint to peel when Douglas removed the shutters this summer.
The youngest of the inspectors was right there making sure that we were doing our work correctly.
It was really driving him crazy that he could not be outside with us.
After a while Crème chased Ponche away so that she could check our progress.
The neighbor that shares our driveway was also having his trim painted that day. It seems that was the job to do that day.
I did not take much care while painting the shutters. I only used disposable spray cans. First of all, Douglas did not sand them well this summer because they are not in great condition. Secondly, I am planning to make new ones next summer. I just need these to make it through the winter.
When Douglas went over to the other side of the house, Crème had to switch rooms. She stayed at her post despite the fact that she seemed extremely bored.
Poor Douglas was having a lot of trouble with the ladders. He did not have enough room to always use the big one, and the little one was not made to use outside and kept sinking into the ground.
Say goodbye to the last little bit of hideous green. Rest assured that this was not the shade that I had in mind when I said that I would like to paint the house green.
Finally, the house was painted. Doesn’t Douglas look thrilled?
When the shutters were dry they went back on the house. He pulled out a third ladder for this.
The house looks better with the shutters back on, especially now that they are not peeling. However, I am ready for it to be another color. We are not having much luck getting estimates from painters, but I am hopeful that we can get someone soon. Wish us luck!
Happy Homemaking!
Oh, it looks like a story book cottage with its painted shutters.
Looks great. I hate it when I’m on a ladder and it sinks into the soft dirt. You’ve got me interested about “making new” shutters. Anyway, check another project off the list. Jo @ Let’s Face the Music
I’m curious about how you intend to make new shutters, too. The house already looks better! Have you tried one of those apps that show you colors on a photo of your house? I need to do that, too.
It looks good. I can’t wait to see how you build new shutters.
Ahhhh! Everyone is excited about the shutters. So much pressure! I hope I can live up to the hype. Thanks for taking the time to comment, though. I love comments. 🙂
looks great!
Thanks!
