Palermo, Buenos Aires, Argentina
On Wednesday, June 29 Sofi and I visited Palermo, a neighborhood close to Belgrano. Palermo is known for its large park. Being a Wednesday in the middle of winter, the park was quiet. You know that I could not stay out of the trees.
It was nice to walk through the park without a lot of people around. Palermo’s park is beautiful even in winter.
The roses were still blooming despite the cold. I was glad that it did not rain that day. It did rain later that evening, but at least we were dry for our walk in the park.
I thought that this bridge was the perfect opportunity for a photo op. It turned out that it was off limits, but Sofi is a rebel.
This is the Patio Andaluz. It did remind me of Andalucía. I love the tiling – more inspiration for my mosaic.
The best part of the day for me were the birds. When we first arrived the ducks caught my eye.
This little black duck was cute, but doesn’t he have the strangest beak?
The pigeons were harder to photograph. They were very close and refused to pose.
The little green parrots were everywhere. In fact, I saw them all over Buenos Aires and not just in Palermo.
This guy was singing his heart out. He must have been having a good day, and he made ours even brighter.
I am proud of the pictures I took of this woodpecker. He almost seemed to be posing for me.
The pictures of this bird were pretty good as well. He seemed to be puffed with pride. I particularly love the second picture.
From the park we crossed the Av. del Libertador as the sun was setting. Unfortunately, I was unable to adequately capture the sunset. Why do they never turn out the same in pictures?
There were some cool shops in Palermo. Here is a cool furniture shop that was closed to my dismay. I would have liked to look around, but it is probably good that I could not because I would have fallen in love with something that would be very expensive to ship to the United States. We did get to go in this bookstore. It spent some time there, but the books were expensive. Sofi did buy a cool one. We also went to a shoe store, and I bought two pairs of shoes. For some odd reason, I do not have a picture of them.
Here are a few more pictures of the center of Palermo at night. This was right before it started raining, and we went home. In this little plaza I got more inspiration for my mosaic.

Love your pictures. You have inspired me, however I may need your guidance. When the movers where moving us into the “new” house, they must have dropped the plastic bin containing my collection of ginger jars. (sigh) I cannot bear to throw the pieces away. Do you have any suggestions on what I could to with the pieces (make a mosaic??), but I have no idea where to start??? any suggestions???
Mahalo
Oooooohhhhhh! I am sorry to hear about your ginger jars, but excited about the idea of another mosaic. I just started working on mine again. This time I am using liquid nails instead of mortar, and it is so much easier. I just squeeze the liquid nails onto the back of piece and put it where I want it. I find that this gives me more freedom to create my design as I go and make sure that it turns out exactly as I want it to. Where are you thinking of making the mosaic? On a table top?
The little furniture store has some interesting items. I think much of it you could reproduce from Craigslist or roadside finds like your purple rocker. Jo @ Let’s Face the Music
The rocker would fit well in that shop. Places like that inspire me, and I guess it shows!
