Repairing the Rug – Reparando la alfombra

Thank you to all that took the time to respond to my post last week. I honestly planned to work on the house numbers, the living room door or paint the kitchen this weekend. Then, my mother called and convinced me that I needed to go visit her and my grandmother. Family comes first, so I went, but don’t worry, I started one of those projects this week. I also worked on a little something while I was visiting.

Sewing a rug

This rug has been in our house since July 2014, when we bought it at an antique store in Saranac Lake.

Hallway August 2014

It was great for a while, but a year and a half ago I washed it, and the stitches holding the braids came apart. Ponche did not mind the change. He loved crawling through the holes to take a nap.

Cat under the rug

You can see that even when the cat was not curled up inside the rug, it still did not lay flat.

On my way out to Long Island, I figured that the rug would be easy to take along and would be a project that I could work on easily and still talk to my family.

Sewing a rug

My grandmother enjoyed pointing out all of the holes, but she refused to help sew. She is like that. She did pose for the picture once I was finished though.

The rug is now back in the bedroom. It is much better now.

Ponche does not agree with me. He missed his napping spot.

Ponche no está de acuerdo. Le hace falta sus huequitos para esconderse.

Kahlua likes it. Crème for once did not have an opinion.

Now I am off to put up some numbers or paint a door or a kitchen.

Ahora necesito ir a colgar unos números o pintar algo.

I am a teacher, traveler, artist, writer, homemaker and a whole lot more. In January 2009, I bought the Cape of Dreams. It was the second house that I had ever owned, but it was the first that I bought by myself. I now live in the house with my husband Douglas, our dog Kahlua, and Crème de Menthe, the cat. Because, what life is complete without a little Kahlua and Cream? I love arts and crafts of all kinds, and I refinish furniture as well. We are slowly redoing our entire house. 1. HA HA HA!!! Ponche cracks me up – he’s so mischievous! What a silly boy. Great job on the rug! I love that your grandmother didn’t help but did point out all the areas to you 🙂

    • Right now he is next to me auditioning for cutest cat in the world. All morning he has been extra adorable. He might not be the smartest cat in the world, but he does know how to worm his way into your heart.

    • I never would have guessed that Ponche would remember that he liked to crawl into that rug. It has not been down on the floor for a while, and he isn’t that smart. That picture with my grandmother was actually taken at my mother’s house. The antique rocking chair was a present to my mother from my brothers a few years ago. The roll top desk was made early in the XX Century by a great great uncle. It was used in the basement to store tools in my great grandmother’s house until my parents rescued it and refinished it when I was small. I have always loved that piece.
