Reviving Furniture in Three Easy Steps
Where has the time gone? I was going about my life, and suddenly it had been five days since I last published anything. My excuse is that the cold has driven me into hibernation. I have been working on recovering my chair in denim but not much else. I will update you on that project later this week… if I have not gone back into my cave again.
In the meantime, I want to show you how I revived the library for no money. Here is what it looked like when we put it together in our living room. It was beautiful, but the wood was extremely dry.
I used my magic concoction of Murphy Oil Soap, Minwax Tung Oil and Howard Feed-N-Wax. You may remember that this is the knockout trio that I used on my kitchen cabinets last year.
My faithful assistant helped me with the polishing. The wood really soaked up the wax and looked much better when we were finished.
Here is the what the piece looked like once we were finished. Much better.
Crème says to stop looking at the library and pay more attention to her.
I mentioned earlier that this project did not cost me any money. That is because I had already purchased the products that I used to revive this antique. Buying them all at this time would have cost $46, but it will last quite a while. Taking care of your wooden furniture will add years to its life. Here is another look at the before and after.
Happy Homemaking!
My Dad used to swear by MinWax and Murphys Oil Soap
They are classics and work wonders on wooden furniture.
Just gorgeous! That Crème really knows what she’s doing!
She certainly thinks that she does!
Even on pictures, the difference is amazing! And Crème is adorable, as usual!
I felt like the library was sighing as I rubbed it, as though I were giving it the best massage ever.
That really looks nice! I always enjoy coming to your page and part of the fun is seeing how happy you are! Crème looks very regal up there! Lovely photos. 🙂
Thank you! I can tell you that we are not always happy around here, but overall things are good and we appreciate what we have. Hopefully, you will get to come visit in person some day.
Warm and alive. Great job! Jo @ Let’s Face the Music
Thank you, Jo. It was one of those easy tasks that make a big difference.
Interesting way of upholstering, to patch directly on the covering. I would have sewn most of the denim pieces together (at least large enough to cover the bigger, flatter parts of the chair), then sewn the pieced sections to the chair using single patches or strips of single patches. But, I’m a lazy sew-and-sew.
Cute play on words! It seems that the interpretation of lazy depends on the beholder because I feel that I am too lazy to pull out the sewing machine and prefer to just work by hand!
