Scary Halloween Bicycle Man
You may remember the Headless Bicycle Man from last year. If you never saw him, I recommend you check him out here. He was fun and made cars slow down to check him out. I even saw people stop to take pictures of him.
I thought that he would be returning this year, but alas, he sent a friend instead. I am sure the Headless Bicycle Man will be back one day, but in the meantime, meet Scary Halloween Man.
About ten people stopped while I was putting him together to say how much they liked him or thought that he was scary. I love what he adds to the yard for the season. I love Halloween!
So, here is how we made him, in case you need a Scary Halloween Bicycle Man of your own. First, I found some black clothing… and stuffed it with leaves. I pinned the bottom of the shirt to the waist of the pants and put rubber bands on all of the cuffs to hold the leaves.
I had to stop there because I did not have a good bag to use for the head. Scary Bicycle Man hung out on my back porch until I could get one. I almost jumped out of my skin when I went into the kitchen and saw him through the window.
Here he is with his head finally attached. That bag of leaves beside him is identical to the one I used for his head.
You can see that I used a scrap of black fabric to cover the bag of leaves. The mask holds it on and the hood of the cape covers it. A bent wire hanger allows the cape to stream out behind him.
At this point, Scary Halloween Man was looking good, but he had stability issues. He needed Douglas’ help to keep him upright. Perhaps he had too many drinks before he got on the bike. Either that or it had been a while since he had ridden.
Douglas used some twine and tent spikes to help him maintain his balance. Four little strings attached to the pedals are hardly noticeable but will keep him from falling over any more.
He also gave him shoes and gloves.
Scary Bicycle Man is now a vicious killer.
Just kidding. We were only playing around. He really is a sweetheart; he just looks really scary.
Especially at twilight. If you are wondering what is in the windows, that is a sneak peek at Wednesday’s post.
Happy Homemaking and Happy Halloween!
I also used some wooden garden stakes to give him a little more “backbone”…
Because you are wonderful like that.
He REALLY looks scary in the last picture! I spied Crème in the window…
Crème is the perfect addition to my Halloween decorations, and she is really enjoying her job. This is her favorite holiday of course!
That’s a scary bicycle man! I love decorating for Halloween but we keep it mostly inside the house. We may steal your idea for next year.
Steal away! This one is so fun and low cost.
