Starting the Trim Painting
You may have heard that the northeast was to receive the blizzard of a lifetime this week. Some parts of Long Island received a lot of snow, but up here in our part of Westchester we barely got anything at all. We are not complaining, though. It was nice to have the day off of work and not have to do as much shoveling as we had feared.
Menderes is learning bad habits from Douglas. He wore shorts out to shovel the driveway. Crazy boys… both of them!
Crème and Kahlua stayed curled up inside. They loves each other so much!
Once the shoveling was done, Douglas got to work on the trim painting. On Monday afternoon, he had used spackle to smooth the trim and patched some holes in the wall. On Tuesday, he did the painting.
I know that I said that trim painting was not going to happen until the weather warmed up, but this area could not wait. Once we have the enormous bookshelf/mantle here, we are not going to be able to move it once we get around to painting the trim. One of my pet peeves is when people paint around furniture, so I wanted to make sure that this was done right.
While we were at it, I removed the bookshelves around the big mirror. Menderes kept hitting his head on them when he would sit at the dining room table. We will find another spot for them.
Douglas also patched a long crack in the wall. It was hidden by the curtains, but knowing that it was there drove me crazy.
It took Douglas hours just to do this little section of painting. That does not bode well for the rest of it. We are just going to have to work section by section… once the weather warms up!
At least now we have one small portion finished. Too bad we are going to cover it up later today!
You may be wondering what I was doing while all of this work was being done. Snow days are great for getting chores done. Despite lying in bed for hours reading, I did five loads of laundry and gave the bedroom and bathroom a thorough cleaning. I edited many pages of the school yearbook and graded several assignments. There are no pictures of these boring tasks so here is one of a blurry but cute kitten yawn.
Happy Homemaking!
Steve and I joke that we need a snow day now and then to actually get projects done. We have had a spectacular January with 70 – 80 degree days and it is hard to make yourself work when the sun is calling.
Editing yearbook pages – oh, I do remember that. I did the yearbook for 8 years. I did it in the early days of paper and rubber cement. It was certainly made easier by the computer.
There is nothing better than a snow day! Although, 70-80 degree weather is pretty nice too!
I was editor of my high school yearbook when we had to do all of the layouts on paper. I am much happier with the computer!
Part of the length of time painting was due to cooler temps, and needing to make sure that paint from trim was fully dry before painting wall beside it. Hopefully will go quicker next time. The big time killer was the spackling to smooth everything out.
Love the pics of Crème and Kahlua! So cute! I’m so glad they get along so well. I wish our kitties would snuggle together. We also have a long crack under our living room window which drives me crazy. I plan to address it one of these days.
It makes me so happy that they get along so well. We brought Crème into the house as a tiny kitten, and I think that made it a lot easier. We are going to have to do something more permanent with our crack eventually, but for now, a little spackle and paint made it look a lot better.
See how easy that was? Just have Douglas do it!! I get a lot of things done that way, too. Kahlua and Crème are just adorable.
I’m glad to hear you didn’t get walloped with snow … I’ve been thinking about you. I hope this next system doesn’t mess with you, either, just gives you another snow day.
Sssshhhh, don’t let him know that was my plan all along. 😉 I love having snow, so bring it on! I hope to be able to use my snow shoes this year.
The first pic of kahlua and creme is the cutest ever. The second picture is freaky. Creme looks like something out of Beetlejuice.
That picture is awesome. She definitely looks like something supernatural.
You’ll be glad that section is finished when you get to the rest of it. Jo @ Let’s Face the Music
Good way to think of it!
Hopefully seeing how great it looks having been painted will encourage to get the rest done. There is nothing greater than finishing a long put off task!
It’s true, and I’m sure that we will be happy once it is done. We just need to break it down into manageable chunks.
Oh, that’s it! I need a snow day! I see no other way to begin working on my dining-room! Oh, cats that love each other rather than try to tear each other apart might help too!
I hope you get your snow day! They are wonderful!!!
