The Dreaded Laundry
The title of this post might confuse you after I say that I love to do laundry. It’s true; I even wrote an entire post about laundry shortly after I started blogging. The problem is that as much as I like to make the clothes clean, I despise putting them back in the closet. Even the gorgeous wardrobe that I found on Craigslist last summer could not make the chore any easier.
This is how the guest room often looks. This is how it looked this week. All of those clothes are clean, but they have been sitting there for a long time.
Then I remembered how much better I felt after I cleaned and organized my kitchen cabinets and decided to get to work in here. First, I separated everything into piles and put away the socks.
I moved on to the underwear. It drives me crazy that Douglas just shoves his in a drawer.
I organized it. I probably should have left it alone because it is his, but once I opened the drawer, I was unable to ignore it.
I made a dent in the mound.
When I went to put away the towels, I found this. I like to keep them more organized, but Douglas does not have the same method of folding the towels.
I had to fix it.
The pile is getting smaller.
I put the rest of Douglas’ clothes away. You can see that the rest of his drawers are much more organized. He is not a complete slob!
It is getting better.
I put my folded clothes in the drawers.
This is my secret drawer. I used to constantly have a pile of clothes in my room that I had worn, but that were not yet dirty enough to put in the laundry. Now I keep them here, and the room stays clean.
There are only hanging clothes and a blanket left.
There is the last of it.
The guest room looks like an inviting place again. Phew! Now I need a nap. Thanks for keeping me company while I do my chores.
Happy Homemaking!
Good work!! It’s a running joke in our house that Oly is soooooo much tidier than I am.
He also does all the laundry (I do all the cooking, so it’s fair!) and I will frequently moan about the pile of clothes that magically appear on the bed for me to put away.
I am immediately chastised that he washes and dries my clothes, the least I can do is put them away.
I hadn’t thought about just transporting them in piles to the spare bed…..you’ve given me (BAD!) ideas!!! Jude x
Oh No! I do not mean to spread my bad habits!!!!
I want it known, that those weren’t my clothes on the bed. I do put mine away, just not as neatly evidently as some would prefer…
There were some of your clothes on the bed, but only because I had just washed them. You are much better than I about putting your clothes away. I put those clothes away for you, though, so I should get extra credit points. 🙂
Charlie generally does our laundry and folds it. I only need to put my clothes away. I’m fairly hopeless unless it’s something that goes on a hanger, then I’m a rock star. I’m hoping that we’ll both be tidier when we get a master closet which is past the planning stage but still in the bare bones construction stage. Jo @ Let’s Face the Music
Douglas and I both wash the clothes. Neither of us minds doing that. I just hate putting everything away. The wardrobe makes it easier, but it is just such a hassle. I don’t know why it bothers me so much… just one of my idiosyncrasies.
Isn’t it funny how we ALL hate putting away laundry? I wish someone would invent a machine that folds and puts it away (I think that’s called a maid). What I really hate is when I’m tired and I want to go to bed and I walk in the bedroom and the bed is piled high with clean laundry that needs to be folded and put away!! If we leave it sitting anywhere, it becomes a furry cat bed.
Piles of laundry on the bed or sheets that are still in the dryer and need to be put on before you can go to sleep, these things are the WORST! Creme loves it though.
Good, I’m glad I’m not the only one that does this. Except I think I’m far worse. When I do my laundry, I carry it in a pile up to the bedroom (two flights of stairs from the basement) and then I throw it on my bed. I usually leave it there while I do all my other cleaning, vacuuming, etc and then by the end of the day, the LAST thing I want to do is fold and put clothes away. So, guess where they go: On the floor. Hey, I just cleaned it! This doesn’t happen all the time, but it happens more than I’d like to admit.
That sounds like my attitude exactly. I just have one less flight of stairs! I wish there were a cure.
I should so do the same thing. My shelves in the bedroom are a shame!
It feels so good to have it done!
