The Oklahoma City Riverwalk 2014

My travels continue this week as I am currently in Maryland visiting family. However, I made a promise last week to share photos of my visit to the Oklahoma City Riverwalk.

Oklahoma City Riverwalk

While living in Oklahoma, I always enjoyed going to Bricktown’s restaurants for dinner or to the bars for the nightlife, but there were not many places open at that time. The Riverwalk did not exist. The summer that I left for graduate school in Pennsylvania, the ballpark opened, and I saw one game there. The Redhawks are a minor league team, but at that time there were no major league teams in Oklahoma in any sport, and I enjoyed the ballpark.

The following year the canal opened, and things began to pick up in the city. I am glad to see activity downtown, and it was nice to finally get down there myself. I visited briefly in 2008, but this was the first time I had several hours to explore. It has been a lot more built up since my first trip.

Here is your tour of the Oklahoma City Riverwalk as seen through my eyes on June 14, 2014. The waterfalls are man-made but pretty.

There are many bridges.

It was unexpected to me to see the wildlife along the canal. There were a lot of different birds. I was only able to photograph a few, and the pictures are not that good because I did not bring my good camera.

Can you spot the climber on the side of Rocktown, the grain elevator turned climbing gym?

I appreciated the sculptures along the Riverwalk.

The most impressive sculptures were those honoring the Oklahoma Land Run of 1889. The details in the sculptures were impressive.

I am a teacher, traveler, artist, writer, homemaker and a whole lot more. In January 2009, I bought the Cape of Dreams. It was the second house that I had ever owned, but it was the first that I bought by myself. I now live in the house with my husband Douglas, our dog Kahlua, and Crème de Menthe, the cat. Because, what life is complete without a little Kahlua and Cream? I love arts and crafts of all kinds, and I refinish furniture as well. We are slowly redoing our entire house.
