The Pink House – La casa rosada
One of the things that we most loved about the other house was that we painted it pink. If you were reading this blog when we bought the house, you will remember that it was yellow.
The paint was also peeling terribly. It was just one of the reasons that we got a good deal on the house. I think that there was more work than a lot of people wanted to take on.
Every time I asked Douglas what color we should paint the house, he said, “Paint the mother pink!” So, I bought several paint samples and painted them on the house. We picked the pink on the bottom right and the green that was second from the bottom.
The decision to hire people to paint the house was an easy one. There was just too much work, and it would have taken us forever. At the time, Douglas was working at a physical therapy clinic. Once Covid hit, there was no way that we could have done the work, since he was working overtime, and I was barely able to keep my head above water with all that I needed to do. We hired the painters in July of 2020, and they were done two weeks later.
I thought that it should be a softer pink, but Douglas and the boys voted for brighter. In the end, the color was a little too bright for me, and not bright enough for them. What do you think?
I also know that the green doors would also not be everyone’s first choice, but we liked the contrast. It was a cheery color.
The house looked beautiful for Christmas.
La casa se veía bellísima en Navidad.
It was also spectacular in the spring with all of the pink flowers surrounding it.
We briefly worried that the color might make the house harder to sell, but it turned out not to be a problem at all.
We are going to miss our pink house. Maybe someday the Cape of Dreams will be pink. Who knows?
Happy Homemaking! ~ ¡Que todos sus sueños caseros se cumplan!
Lovely to see you online again, Jessica.
Hi, Jacqui!
Not gonna lie, I was a little shocked to see that the house was pink! I’ve read that brighter colors are coming into favor for houses these days. We have a bright purple one with aqua trim in our neighborhood. Yours is such a fairy tale house! Surely there’s a princess living in the attic, and mice wearing waistcoats running around after dark! That Christmas picture is absolutely magical.
Btw, I don’t speak Spanish, but I always read your Spanish paragraphs, hoping some of it sinks in. I’m sure I pronounce everything wrong in my head!
I was surprised that no one commented on the color. I guess they knew not to say anything if they didn’t have anything nice to say. Lol. I’m glad you enjoy the Spanish even if you don’t speak it. It doubles the work of every post, but I have a few loved ones that rely on it, so it’s worth it.
That’s not a little pink house that Johnny Cougar sings about.
LOL. No, but that is the song that we sing when we talk about it. 😀
🥰🥰🥰 Happy Spring!!! Nice post, how’s it going at the Cape of Dreams?!?? I’m painting in Hartford and would love to talk swatches and home decor with you soon.
Happy Spring! I would love to talk to you about it as well. Call any time. 🙂
“Paint the mother pink!” should be on tshirts. That is hilarious!!!!!!! Sorry to take so long getting caught up on your blog. I mean, I’ve been waiting YEARS for you to start writing again and then when you do, I don’t even read them!!! There has too much going on irl, but things are calming down now, finally. Please tell Douglas that “Paint the mother pink!” made me LOL. I loved it pink!!! i totally think the CoD should be pink. I also hope you work more, eventually, on the tile mosiac on your foundation.
Maybe next time we paint it will be pink! I totally understand being busy irl. Notice I haven’t been posting very frequently.
