Traditional Halloween Jack O’Lanterns
I enjoy carving pumpkins. In general, I enjoy most everything associated with Halloween, so you should not be surprised. Last night Menderes was out with friends, and Douglas and I went to work on our pumpkins.
I wish that I could tell you that I was inspired and came up with something super original and amazing.
As I blogger, I should feel obligated to create something that you are going to want to put on your Pinterest board.
I could tell you that I made my Jack O’Lantern ironically and pretend that I am a hipster, but I think we all know that is not true.
I must be a bad blogger or maybe I just like the traditional, old-school Jack O’Lanterns the way I learned to make them as a kid. I am happy with how mine turned out.
It was supposed to have two fangs, but I slipped with the knife and yanked the poor guy’s tooth. It is fortunate that I am not a dentist, I guess.
Douglas went into more detail, but his is pretty traditional as well. I would like to know what the A stands for. Do you see it as well?
Here are the good-looking, old-fashioned Jack and Jill O’Lantern.
While we were carving, the house was broken into.
We were lucky. The would-be thief decided that he would rather carve pumpkins than rob us.
He whipped his out in about five minutes. I could not believe that it was his first time to carve a pumpkin.
I think that the O’Lantern family looks pretty cool on the front stoop.
What you see below is the very first video ever to grace the Cape of Dreams blog. It is brought to you by Douglas, who was the one to figure out how to get it in the post. (I told you that I am a bad blogger.) Behold the blinking pumpkins. Douglas put his bike lights inside them.
A very sad kitten watched it all through the window.
Oh, by the way, Douglas also gave our scarecrow a head, hands and feet yesterday.
The face is a picture of himself that he put in a plastic bag and stuffed with leaves. It looked a lot more realistic before the moisture got inside and made the ink run. It still looks pretty creepy this way, though, don’t you think?
I hope that everyone has a very happy and safe Halloween!
Happy Homemaking!
I love your traditional jack o’lanterns: they are exactly how I picture them. The one fang crooked smile on yours is adorable!
Thank you! I think they are pretty cute as well.
I carve pumpkins for one reason: the seeds!! Today I am gorging on salty, roasted pumpkin seeds! YUM!
I am so impressed by your video! Nice job, Douglas! And I thought our jack o’lanterns were high-tech because they have electric votives in them! 🙂
Oh, you had better believe we roasted our seeds. I LOVE them.
We have had several compliments on our pumpkins so far tonight from trick or treaters. Not worrying about candles is really nice.
