Valentine’s Day Hike

This was a three day weekend. I would like to be able to tell you that we have been getting a lot of work done, but the truth is that not much has happened at all. I have been reading La sombra del viento (The Shadow of the Wind in English) by Carlos Ruíz Zafón. It is amazing, and I have not been able to put it down.

Douglas did start cleaning and organizing the workshop, and I bought the thread to begin working on my chair that I am going to reupholster in denim. Other than that, no work has occurred.

Douglas and I celebrated Valentine’s Day on snowshoes yesterday. We are hoping to go on another one today.

We were at the Rockefeller Preserve. This state park once property of the Rockefeller family is over 1400 acres covered with trails. However, the best part of using snowshoes is that you do not need to stick to the trails.

On our hike we only saw two other people, but we were not the only ones out there. Although we did not see any there were obviously deer, rabbits, squirrels and mice scurrying around.

Here are our snowshoe trails. Blazing a new trail is a lot more work, but Douglas prefers to do so. When I get too tired to break a new trail, I follow behind him for a while.

Here Douglas tried to rest by leaning against a tree. He should have picked a stronger one.

He got revenge by chucking it.

On our walk we saw an awesome tree house. It has a chimney and must have a wood burning stove inside. I would like to move in.

I hope that you had a good weekend with a loved one as well.

I am a teacher, traveler, artist, writer, homemaker and a whole lot more. In January 2009, I bought the Cape of Dreams. It was the second house that I had ever owned, but it was the first that I bought by myself. I now live in the house with my husband Douglas, our dog Kahlua, and Crème de Menthe, the cat. Because, what life is complete without a little Kahlua and Cream? I love arts and crafts of all kinds, and I refinish furniture as well. We are slowly redoing our entire house. 1. Pretty landscape! I have only snowshoed once, but it was a blast! Your deciduous woods are very different than our almost impenetrable conifer forests–we need trails and logging roads to follow.
While you were snowshoeing, Eric was contemplating mowing the lawn (but he didn’t). What a weird winter!
