What Comes Next?

I am asking you. What do I do now? The past two weeks have been a blur, and my only focus has been to get through. I am happy to announce that I survived; now I am not sure what to do next.

The plan for this past weekend was to get out of practice on Saturday and go visit my mother and her husband. We wanted to spend the night with them and then go pick up this piece of furniture on Sunday.

Unique bookcase

Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate with us. Sunday dawned with rain, and it never let up all day. Because we had to take the top off the pick up truck in order to fit the cabinet in, we could not transport it in the rain. Hopefully, we will be loading it as this post publishes on Monday morning.

Crème was not sad to spend another night by the fire. She wishes we had a fireplace at our house… so do I!

So, instead of rearranging my house to fit in my new bookshelf/mantle, I am still at my mother’s house contemplating what comes next. That is where you come in; I would like your opinions about which project you would like to see me complete.

The first project would be to finish Crème’s jungle gym. I started wrapping the second post over Thanksgiving, but I never finished. Once that is done, we plan to construct a walkway that will connect the two posts and allow Crème to cross the room without ever touching the floor.

Another project that has been on the books forever is to recover the floral print chair in denim. I have been collecting used jeans for a couple of years now and should have more than enough for this piece. My inspiration came from this room.

The last project would be to finally paint all of the trim in my living and dining rooms. The front door also needs to be painted in the worst way. I really, really do not want to do this, but it needs done. The trim has looked ridiculous for the past five years, and I am sick of it!

What do you think I should start working on this week?

Happy Homemaking!

I am a teacher, traveler, artist, writer, homemaker and a whole lot more. In January 2009, I bought the Cape of Dreams. It was the second house that I had ever owned, but it was the first that I bought by myself. I now live in the house with my husband Douglas, our dog Kahlua, and Crème de Menthe, the cat. Because, what life is complete without a little Kahlua and Cream? I love arts and crafts of all kinds, and I refinish furniture as well. We are slowly redoing our entire house. 1. Hi, Jessica. I would like you to start working on the denim sofa. I, too, have been saving old jeans and would love to see an inspirational project unfold before my very eyes. Of course, I also need major trim painted as well as the front door but that can wait until nicer weather for me. Jo @ Let’s Face the Music

  2. what a beautiful bookcase!
I vote for your kitty project, winter is long, and she’d be sure to love the adventure and exercise. Looking forward to the blue jean project as well. I think painting when the temperature is 50 or below is too cold. One winter I was painting the window frame inside the house and the paint curled because the glass and wood were too cold.

    • Thank you! You are now the second person to bring up the temperature for painting. It definitely makes sense to wait on that one. Kitty project is taking the lead!

  3. I think you should take the next 3-4 months and really think things through, prioritize, and plan before taking action.

  4. I see you are lots of pressure to finish Creme’s kitty gym, and I was going to vote for that, anyway! But when that’s done, I can’t wait to see the denim chair project. I, too, collect denim ever since I sewed a denim blazer in college (a million years ago) and had a hard time finding enough used denim. Now I have a ton! Eric has a funky old chair that I want to cover in denim … one of these days! I agree, no paint during the cold months. You didn’t want to do that, anyway! 😉

    • I’m so impressed that you made a blazer. That is much more difficult than recovering a chair, at least the way that I plan to do it. I am looking forward to that project as well, but the cat must come first. 😉
