When In Doubt, Add Plants
Last Wednesday, I posted about some changes that had already taken place when I updated you on my new living room look.
It seemed as though I had just finished this project. Then, I went to look for the pictures, but they were not in the September folder. They were not at the end of the August folder either. It has been about six weeks since I did this. Arg! Time is going by way too fast!!
So, in August, I decided that I was no longer satisfied with this wall. It just seemed too busy and not organized enough.
I had been admiring walls of greenery for years and thought that it was time for me to try it out. I went to the local nursery and bought a lot of plants and pots. The hardest part was trying to choose which plants should go where.
This was the arrangement I settled on finally.
Then, I added in some statues and wooden pieces.
I love the new wall, and I took several pictures and planned to write the post. Then, I realized that the wall was not quite finished.
When we were redoing Menderes’ room, I remembered that I had another little Buddha statue in that room. I bought it in South Korea in 2009. It now sits on this shelf.
In full disclosure, a couple of the plants are not doing well. I already switched one out and need to change the other soon. This is what the wall is looking like now. Hopefully, I can keep the rest of the plants alive.
Crème gave it the sniff test and pronounced it two paws up.
Happy Homemaking!
love it, love a bit of greenery
I was thinking of doing something similar in my bathroom above the loo and to hide the extractor outlet…I kill everything, any ideas of hardy moisture loving plants I can add?
E.
I might not be the best one to ask. I had an ivy plant that was growing well in my bathroom, but everyone kept telling me that it was the wrong plant for the bathroom since ivy does not need humidity. I took it out and put it in my bedroom and bought a fern to go in the bathroom. Everyone told me that ferns do well in bathrooms because they love humidity, but this one is not thriving. I might put the ivy back in there. I would suggest that you put a plant in, and if it does well, keep it there! Most of my gardening is done by trial and error.
I agree, everything looks better with some plants. The idea of having some on your shelves is brilliant.
Besides looking lovely, plants clean the air that we breathe. You can’t beat that!
Plants make every room better! I did a safety presentation at work once about toxic plants, and I was appalled at how many can be dangerous. Make sure any that Crème can reach are safe for cats. If she’s like my kitties, she eats stuff she shouldn’t, and anything dangly is a toy!
I keep bamboo out for her because I heard that it is safe for cats to eat. She seems content to eat that and leave the rest of the plants alone. People might question why my bamboo looks so horrible, but I feel it is a good sacrifice for her well being.
I love the plant wall! I would like to see some flower arrangements in the man and woman vases, please. 🙂
I am so afraid that those vases are going to get broken. Right now they are safely locked inside the china cabinet in the corner.
