Winter Break II – Chicago

Last week, I told you about our trip to Michigan and Indiana to visit Douglas’ family.

I left you hanging with the story of our side trip to Chicago. Today, you will get the rest of the tale. Our first stop was the Museum of Science and Industry.

Menderes’ was surprised to see a German submarine in the museum. He started plotting a way to steal it back.

The purpose of the trip was to meet up with my brother, Jeremy, and sister in law, Laura, who live in southern Illinois. We stayed at the Palmer Hotel and traveled on the L.

The nocturnal animals were much more active than they normally are when I am at the zoo. It was fun to visit at night.

We had a blast.

The next morning, we met up with some friends for lunch and then went to Millennial Park.

I had seen the bean, but these faces were new.

We spent  New Year’s Eve at a hotel in South Bend with Douglas’ family. We also met up with some good friends that live there. Unfortunately, I did not get any pictures of those visits.

It already feel as though this trip occurred months ago. It is hard to believe that we were there a short two weeks ago. At the rate we are going it will be spring before we know it!

Happy Homemaking!

I am a teacher, traveler, artist, writer, homemaker and a whole lot more. In January 2009, I bought the Cape of Dreams. It was the second house that I had ever owned, but it was the first that I bought by myself. I now live in the house with my husband Douglas, our dog Kahlua, and Crème de Menthe, the cat. Because, what life is complete without a little Kahlua and Cream? I love arts and crafts of all kinds, and I refinish furniture as well. We are slowly redoing our entire house. 1. I was only in Chicago once for a family wedding. My husband made it to the Chicago Art Institute, but my daughter and I were shopping for a dress for her. We didn’t really get to experience much of the city.

How fun your trip must have been with family united.

  2. I love the museums, too, and the architecture! I also love the Bean. Everyone around the Bean is smiling because it’s so much fun! What a great piece of public art, and what a fun trip.

    • Isn’t that a cool photo. It is a machine that you walk through in the Museum of Science and Industry. It is cool vapor. You definitely need to go to Chicago. Midwestern cities are very different from eastern ones.

  3. Lincoln Park Zoo is one of Chicago’s wonderful and FREE treasures. My son lives there and I try to go once a year (or at least every other year). Shedd’s Aquarium is another of their high points.

  4. Love the pictures! The steam one is so cool, and the red/white striped tree at the zoo! Are the museums in Chicago free like they are in DC? Or only the zoo is free? I’ve never been. Will definitely have to go some day! I’ve never been to a zoo at night. That must have been so neat to see the nocturnal animals! Is that an albino sloth? I love travel posts!

    • I don’t think it is an albino. I believe it just has light colored fur, but I am not an expert. As far as I know only the zoo is free. The art institute used to have a “suggested price” but the last time that I went they had a mandatory fee. I was upset because we only had fifteen minutes and thought that it would be a great place to spend some time but were not prepared to pay $27 for that short of a visit.
