Winter Break Trip I – Michigan and Indiana
We have not been getting anything done in the house, but we have a good excuse. We took a two week trip to Michigan, Indiana and Illinois for Christmas.
It was a wonderful trip full of family and friends.
Menderes celebrated his first Christmas with us.
Kahlua and Crème enjoyed it as well, particularly spending time with their buddy Bibbi. She is the big lug of a dog you will see in some of the pictures.
Douglas sisters and their families were at his parents’ house for Christmas as well. We missed his brothers and brother’s family, but at least most of us could be together.
We particularly enjoy spending time with the nieces and nephews. I really wish that we could live closer to them as to see them more frequently.
Menderes also misses his little brothers and was happy to have some kids to play with.
Scotty celebrated his birthday while we were there. The men spent the evening watching football.
It was unfortunate that we did not get any snow while we were there. In fact, it was so warm for most of the trip that I did not even need a coat. Douglas and I took a lot of walks.
Menderes went for a row on the lake.
It is hard to believe that just one week later, we were out walking on that very same lake.
It was unbelievable how clear the ice was. You could see right down to the bottom. It really made Kahlua nervous to be out there. I don’t think she could understand what had happened to the place where she got a bath last summer.
I regretted not bringing my skates. It was really beautiful.
While we were in the Midwest, we also took a trip to Chicago to meet up with my brother and sister in law and a couple of friends. I will tell you more about that part of the trip next week.
We are home now and will hopefully start working on projects again soon. Don’t hold your breath though because we have company visiting from Spain! In the meantime…
Happy Homemaking!
Love all the pics! The best kind of vacation is one where you can bring your pets along! At least it helps 🙂 It’s great to see family and friends, too. I wish our nieces/nephews lived closer to us, too. Don’t get to see them more than once or twice a year! Cool that the ice was so clear!!! I haven’t stood on ice in a long time.
I agree. People are always amazed that we travel with our cat, and I don’t think she is thrilled about it. I know she would hate more to have to stay home alone. Being an aunt is the best.
It was a good trip. Don’t get to see the little ones often enough. They change so much between visits.
So true.
So nice to see so many happy smiling faces! Glad (most of) you all got a chance to be together. Happy New Year!
Hope you had a good trip as well. It seemed that Alex was happy to finally meet his friend.
How cool that you could take Kahlua and Crème! We, too, are far from any relatives. Sometimes–not all the time–I wish they were closer so we could at least get together without such a fuss. That frozen lake is amazing … doesn’t happen where I live!
I would hate to leave them behind. Thankfully, most of our family is happy to have them… or at least they are willing enough to put up with them in order to see us. Probably it is the other way around in that the family tolerate us in order to see the animals. I was surprised to learn recently that Seattle does not get that cold. It is freezing over here on this side of the continent!
A 2-week tour of the upper mid-west and hanging out with your relatives sounds perfectly wonderful. The mild weather was a real plus (you didn’t get stranded anywhere). And now company from Spain — you’re have quite a mid-winter fiesta, no? Jo @ Let’s Face the Music
I definitely cannot complain. It has been a good couple of weeks!
