Four Year Anniversary

Saturday, January 25, marked the four year anniversary of the day I closed on my house. It was a big day in my life. Although the Cape of Dreams was not the first house I ever purchased, it was the first home that I bought on my OWN. That was a huge milestone in my life. It felt good to have a place to call my own that I could do whatever I wanted with and no one could take it away from me, as long as I paid the mortgage and the taxes.

This is the first picture ever taken of me in front of the Cape of Dreams. It was taken in the fall of 2009, when I was trying to close. My mother came to visit, and I took her to see the house.

The four year anniversary was an important one for me because in my entire life, I have never lived in a house for four years. I guess that you could say that my parents raised me as a nomad, and I continued that lifestyle as an adult. I have lived in six states, as well as Venezuela and Spain.

I have now been at my job for six and a half years and in the Cape of Dreams for four. There are times when I start to get antsy; I am ready for the next adventure. Most of the time, I am happy to have put down roots and have no intention of leaving for a while. I like my job and I love my little home. Nothing symbolizes “putting down roots” to me more than working in the garden.

There will still be other adventures in my life. I doubt that I will be here until I die. I am sure that there will be other houses in my future, but this one will always be special.

Happy Homemaking!

I am a teacher, traveler, artist, writer, homemaker and a whole lot more. In January 2009, I bought the Cape of Dreams. It was the second house that I had ever owned, but it was the first that I bought by myself. I now live in the house with my husband Douglas, our dog Kahlua, and Crème de Menthe, the cat. Because, what life is complete without a little Kahlua and Cream? I love arts and crafts of all kinds, and I refinish furniture as well. We are slowly redoing our entire house. • I am happy with her, and I believe that she is glad to have us living there as well. I would like to think that she feels that we are taking good care of her! She has requested that you come visit. 😉

  1. Congratulations on four years with Cape of Dreams! I didn’t think I’d be in my house for so long, but I’m coming up on 30 years! And I have the accumulated junk to prove it! Keep on fixin’ her up … she’s worth it. She’s a darling house.
