Goals for 2016
In January of 2013, I wrote The Neverending Story of Home Renovation, where I listed all of the things that I wanted to do in the house. Since then that list became our Project List. As you can see, a lot of things have been checked off the list, even more have been added to it, but we still have not completed all of the original items on the punch list. I did not think that we could do everything in a year, but I would have liked to be a bit closer three years later.
In January of 2014, I made an ambitious New Year’s Resolutions – eleven in total – and by the end of the year, I gave myself a 74% completion grade.
Last year, I decided that I drastically needed to reduce the number of my resolutions. I gave myself four little objectives to achieve in 2015. This year I give myself a 55% completion grade. Things are getting worse. Therefore, I am making the same goals this year as I did last year.
- Lose 20 pounds- I obtained about 10% of this goal last year, which is pretty pathetic. I need to really focus on this objective this year.
- Improve my family relationships and friendships- I did well in this category last year, but I want to continue in 2016. There is nothing more important than friends and family.
- Travel- It is always my goal to leave the country at least once every year. Last year, I went to Costa Rica and Canada, besides my travels within the United States. If you want to read about more of my trips, you can check out the Travel tab at the top of the page. This year we are hoping to go to Scotland… and wherever else life takes us.
- Finish at least one room in the house- Not finishing this was really pathetic since there is really very little left to do in the kitchen. I sincerely hope to be able to say that I have accomplished this by the end of the year.
So, there you have it folks. The list is exactly the same. I did not even bother to put any pictures in this post. I am sorry for being so lame, but my life has been a tad overwhelming this past week. To top it off I was unable to access the Admin page of my blog for a while, which really sent me into a panic. I just do not have enough energy to be creative right now. I promise to remedy that for the next post. I have some things to show you, like…
… a new cabinet in the kitchen,
… a new cabinet in the bathroom,
… and a new shower system.
There are exciting things ahead at the Cape of Dreams this year. Stick around!
Happy Homemaking!
Stop calling your efforts pathetic! You are extraordinary! You are always an inspiration to me!
I agree
me too! although i usually feel the same way.
You just don’t want me to start any new projects that you are going to have to help me with!
Thank you. I wish we lived closer so we could help each other more.
me too! i realized today that i guess i have no idea when you reply to one of my comments. d’oh! so if there’s some i haven’t replied to, that’s why. i’ll start using the “notify me of follow-up comments by email” box. i am quickly zooming through your posts from the past year to see if i missed any more!
and i already forgot to click the box. ha!
You got lots done! give yourselves a pat on the back.
In the back of my brain I know that’s true. Thank goodness I have you guys to remind me.
for someone dealing with a very hectic life, and dealing with depression, you have done an amazing job of getting shit done! definitely don’t be hard on yourself. i love reading about your varied projects!
Knowing that there are people that enjoy my stories helps. Thank you!
You really shouldn’t be so hard on yourself! You’ve managed a huge amount and should be proud of all of the things you have accomplished! Looking forward to reading more of your adventures!
I appreciate all of the reminders that I did accomplish more than I give myself credit for. It’s a good thing we blog or who would point it out, right?
Jessica, you run rings around most people! I wish I had your energy to get things done. I always feel like I have more energy and time in the summer when it stays light longer. Does that help you, too?
That would help, except that in the summer I find too many other things that I would rather do while the weather is nice, and I neglect my house even more! There are more important things in life than a perfect house, though.
Traveling goals are just as important as house goals. You’re so ahead of the travel thing and will be happy that you didn’t save time and money by pushing off an exciting trip until later. Also your goal of improving family and friend relationships is key to not only a full life but also a healthy one. Jo @ Let’s Face the Music
You’re right. My priorities definitely lie with relationships and travel, so it makes sense that I do not get as much done around the house. I don’t regret my decisions. I just wish I could do everything!
I really admirethe he fact that you set yourself goals!
I cannot function without them. It drives Douglas crazy, but he appreciates it when we accomplish them.
