Most Popular Posts of 2015… and a Cute Kitten Video

It is 2016! How did that happen? To top that off, we are already a good third of the way through January, and I have only managed to write one post. There has not been any time to work on projects here at the Cape of Dreams, but I did have a moment this weekend to look back over my most popular post from last year. Surprisingly, the majority of those posts were not of projects but rather more personal tales of things going on in our lives. There were a couple of good projects mixed in. Without further ado, here are the most popular posts of 2016 in ascending order:

10. My Sister’s House – Not surprisingly, there was great interest in how another member of my family lives and decorates. I love my sister and brother-in-law’s style, and a lot of you did too!

9. Visit with Dad – My father underwent a quadruple bypass this September. Thankfully, he survived and is doing well. I wrote this post while I was down there visiting.

8. Family Halloween Party – Few people throw a party with as much flair as my Uncle Pat and Aunt Regina. They really go all out, and this year’s Halloween bash was no exception.

7. Moving My Map – Finally a post about something we did in the house! This was not a big project, but it felt good to have it done. I love this map, but it did not fit well in the living room. I think that it is perfect in the bedroom.

6. What Comes Next? – In this post, I asked everyone what project we should start working on next. I am ashamed to admit that of the three that I mentioned in here, only one has been completed… and it is not the one that everyone voted for.

5. Door County Wedding – Weddings are usually fun, and this one definitely was, so I am not surprised that this post was popular. The bride and groom sent a lot of traffic my way since I published this post before they received their pictures from the photographer. I am much faster since I do not use Photoshop or touch up my pictures in any way!

4. Our Leather Anniversary – Douglas and I make our anniversary gifts following the traditional gift list. This year we both made each other very similar moccasins!

3. New Addition to the Family – In the midst of a difficult period of our lives this little kitten brought about smiles when we most needed them. He continues to add a great deal to our lives, and we could not imagine life without him.

2. Starting the Mosaic – I did not finish nearly as much as I had hoped to this summer, but I did get one section done. Now that I know what I am doing, I imagine that the rest will be easier. This is one of my all time favorite projects.

1. Depression and Cleaning the Refrigerator – This was one of the most personal posts I have ever written. I had a hard time opening up about my battle with depression, but I am glad that I did. It seems that there are many people out there that share this affliction or have a loved one that does.

Thank you for taking this walk down memory lane with me! Now as promised, here is a video of Ponche and his new hobby – mirror boxing! I am not sure which cat wins, but they fight nearly every morning.

Happy Homemaking!

I am a teacher, traveler, artist, writer, homemaker and a whole lot more. In January 2009, I bought the Cape of Dreams. It was the second house that I had ever owned, but it was the first that I bought by myself. I now live in the house with my husband Douglas, our dog Kahlua, and Crème de Menthe, the cat. Because, what life is complete without a little Kahlua and Cream? I love arts and crafts of all kinds, and I refinish furniture as well. We are slowly redoing our entire house. • That surprised me too! I never know when a post will be successful or not. I just seem to send them out into the universe randomly to ascertain what their degree of popularity will be. It seems very unscientific, but then I am not a scientist.

  1. Isn’t it fun to look back at the past year. It shows us that we really have accomplished a lot.

My favorite here is that you make your anniversary gifts. I just checked and the 45th anniversary is sapphires. I don’t think Steve will make me anything in sapphire, but if I tell him now, he has until April to find me something.

    • Sapphires are beautiful. I was going to suggest that Steve could paint you something sapphire colored, but I think that you should hold out for real sapphires!

  2. That’s the truth–you never know what post is going to strike a chord! Some of my most-visited posts have also been personal stuff; things that I thought were cool, but I had no idea if others would respond, and I was blown away when they did!
That Ponche is so darned cute!!

    • Ponche is lucky that he is so cute, otherwise we would have been tempted to strangle his several times. He sure can get himself in trouble!

I just wish that I could better predict which posts the public wants. Sometimes I write something that I think that people are going to enjoy and then do not receive much of a response. I decided that the best is just to write what I want and not worry so much about popularity.
