Museo Larreta, Buenos Aires
Thursday, June 30 it rained all afternoon in Buenos Aires. I was tired, and the last thing that I wanted was to walk around in the cold rain. Sofi did not mind when I told her that I would rather stay in for the night. I drew while she read the book that she had purchased in Palermo the day before. The cats kept us company.
El jueves, 30 de junio llovió toda la tarde en Buenos Aires. Yo estaba cansada y lo último que quería era caminar en la fría lluvia. A Sofi no le molestaba quedarse en casa esa noche. Yo dibujaba mientras ella leía el libro que había comprado la noche anterior en Palermo. Los gatos nos acompañaban.
The next day, after school we went to the Museo Larreta in the Plaza Manuel Belgrano in Buenos Aires. The museum is in the house of Enrique Larreta, an Argentinian writer that lived between 1873-1961. He was from a wealthy family, and the house has been well preserved. It was fun to look around. There were some cool details. How awesome is this light fixture?
El siguiente día, después de las clases fuimos al Museo Larreta en la Plaza Manuel Belgrano en Buenos Aires. El museo está en la casa de Enrique Larreta, un escritor argentino que vivía entre 1873-1961. Era de una familia con dinero y la casa está bien preservada. Fue interesante curiosear por el interior. Hay unos detalles impresionantes. ¿No te gusta esta lámpara? A mí me encanta.
I loved the dining room. What looks like wallpaper is actually fabric on the walls. I would like to do this one day. It can be attached with starch and is much easier to remove than actual wallpaper.
También me encantaba el comedor. Lo que parece ser papel en las paredes es tela. Me gustaría hacer eso algún día. Se puede adherir con maicena y es mucho más fácil de quitar que el papel pintado.
The tile work on the couches was cool.
Los mosaicos de azulejo en los sofás son impresionantes.
There was also a lot of tile mosaic in the garden.
Había mosaicos en el jardín también.
The gardens are spectacular on a cold, rainy, winter day. I can only imagine how awesome they look on a warm, sunny, summer day.
Los jardines son bonitos aún en un día frío y lluvioso de invierno. Sólo me puedo imaginar cómo son en un día cálida y soleado de verano.
Sofi stayed on the porch while I explored the grounds. It was a little wet and cold for her, but she had a sweet cat to keep her company.
Sofi se quedó en el porche mientras yo investigaba los jardines. No quería mojarse, pero tenía un gato lindo para acompañarla.
The people that live in the apartments over looking these gardens are lucky. What a view they have!
La gente que vive en los apartamentos aquí tienen suerte. Me encantaría tener este terreno de vista de mi balcón… si tuviera balcón.
The house is now an art museum as well. There are only a few rooms with art pieces, but I enjoyed seeing them.
La casa ahora es un museo de arte moderno también. Sólo hay unos salones con arte, pero fue un placer verlos.
There is also a café, and we stopped in for a dessert and a tea. It was a nice warm treat.
Hay un café también y entramos para comer una tarta y tomar un té. Fue un obsequio especial sentarnos en el calor y tomar algo caliente después del frío.
That evening we went to see the school play, Blood Brothers, and did not get home until 1 am. It was a nice day, but I was glad that I had rested on Thursday evening.
Esa noche fuimos a la obra de teatro del colegio, Blood Brothers, y no llegamos a casa hasta la una de la madrugada. Fue un día bonito, pero estaba feliz de haber descansado el día anterior.

it’s too bad it was so wet and rainy while you were there, but your pictures are still gorgeous! love your cat drawing 🙂 and that orange tree in the garden is fabulous!
That is the biggest downside of visiting in winter, but that is when I am not teaching, so I did not have much of a choice. They did tell me that it is not normal for it to rain so much in winter, but that it has been rainier in recent years. Climate change is affecting everyone.
I love the frog in the wall.
I would love to visit Buenos Aires one day.
I highly recommend a trip to Buenos Aires, but you should go in January when it is nice and warm! It is a beautiful city.
