New Curb Sale Chair

The plan was to show off our Christmas tree today. We adorned it last Saturday and have been enjoying it all week. Slowly I am getting into the Christmas spirit that I was lacking on Monday. Alas, Thursday was such a busy day that I did not have a free moment to think let alone write a post.

I coach swimming, and our team had two meets this week. My swimmers did well, but it meant that I arrived home even later than normal. I am also organizing a trip for my students to Costa Rica. It will be a great experience for us all, but the planning is a lot of work.

Therefore, I was unsure of what to share with you today. I thought about not writing a post, but I enjoy the creative outlet that this blog allows me. I do not want to let work take over my life so that I fail to do the things I love.

Then, I remembered that I never shared with you this chair and ottoman that Douglas found on the curb. He picked them up back in October, so it was about time I let you know of their presence.

I actually passed by them in the morning and thought about stopping to get them, but I talked myself out of it because we own a ridiculous number of chairs. However, they must have been destined for our house because my adorable husband picked them up on his way to work.

They are wonderfully ugly in my opinion. I plan to paint and reupholster them eventually, but it could be years before that happens. In the meantime, we put them in the basement, and I put a blanket over the chair. I think that it looks much better this way, and it is really comfortable. I like that it rocks… literally if not figuratively.

I know that this is not the most creative of posts that I have ever written, but I am glad that I did not skip it. This is the best that I could do today, and sometimes we have to be content with our best even when it is not as good as we would like it to be. Or I am the only one that struggles with that?

Hopefully, you are all doing well.

Happy Homemaking!

I am a teacher, traveler, artist, writer, homemaker and a whole lot more. In January 2009, I bought the Cape of Dreams. It was the second house that I had ever owned, but it was the first that I bought by myself. I now live in the house with my husband Douglas, our dog Kahlua, and Crème de Menthe, the cat. Because, what life is complete without a little Kahlua and Cream? I love arts and crafts of all kinds, and I refinish furniture as well. We are slowly redoing our entire house. You can read about my projects on my blog www.CapeofDreams.com

  1. Score! Your Douglas and my Charlie should go on a trip around town together. We could furnish an entire house. I’m usually too focused on other things to stop but I love free stuff and that chair will makeover beautifully. Jo @ Let’s Face the Music

    • It is too bad that we cannot team up to find treasures! I am not sure that we have any more room, though, almost our entire house is furnished from things we picked up off the curb. Sometimes I pass up things that are so beautiful, but I have to leave them behind because I just don’t have any space for them.

  2. Amazing! My friend gave me a chair with exactly the same frame on thanksgiving. Not sure what to do with it, so it sits with my other half-considered projects, safe and sound, until I get motivated.

    • It is so much easier to find the pieces than it is to find the time to fix them, isn’t it? If you get inspiration for a makeover for that chair you must share with me.

  3. I am impressed that you can make time in your busy schedule to be so regular with your posts! That really takes discipline. I just can’t seem to do it … but that’s OK.

    • It is surprising to me as well! I think that it is an ingrained habit for me since I have been keeping a journal since I was seven. Now instead of writing in a journal, I wrote on the blog, add pictures and let other people read it.

  4. I have very busy weeks at work as well. For French teachers, December is known as the hell’s month… We get late meetings every week and I just have no time to decorate with so many papers to grade. It’s amazing you had time for your tree! Good for you!

    • Good luck with your hell month. Ours is not quite that bad, but it is busy! I was hoping to do a little tree in the basement this weekend, but that did not happen. We teachers have to go easy on ourselves this month and not expect too much. Thank goodness our vacation starts soon!
