New Inhabitants of the Cape of Dreams – Nuevos habitantes

For a while, I had been thinking of making some changes in the little bedroom to make better use of the space. I planned to remove the closet doors, paint the closet and put the dresser in there. I thought that I would be able to do these things over a couple of weeks after the living room and big bedroom were painted.

Silly me. I should have know that things would not go as planned. On Wednesday, February 28 we were informed that two boys would be coming into our care that Friday, March 02. I was in the midst of grading exams and calculating trimester grades for all of my students, but I took some time to help Douglas move the furniture around. This is now what you see when you look into the room.

Little bedroom

I am not sure why I never thought to put the dresser in the closet before.

I think that the rest of the room looks better. It is nice to have more space on the floor.

I also like the bed better under the window.

The closet looks terrible with that awful paint color, but painting will have to wait for another day. I am sure that we will have it done in the next ten years. Well… fairly certain we will get to it before then.

Dresser in the closet

As for our new charges, we ended up with a storm on Friday, March 02. We survived alright but only because we were fortunate that our neighbor’s tree fell south instead of north.

Tree down

With the storm raging, all unnecessary travel was discouraged that day, so we had to wait until Tuesday, March 06 to meet Big S and Little D.

Big S and Little D

They were immediately comfortable in their new room and have taken to us quite easily. We are not sure for how long they will be with us, but we enjoy having them. They are sweethearts.

About

I am a teacher, traveler, artist, writer, homemaker and a whole lot more. In January 2009, I bought the Cape of Dreams. It was the second house that I had ever owned, but it was the first that I bought by myself. I now live in the house with my husband Douglas, our dog Kahlua, and Crème de Menthe, the cat. Because, what life is complete without a little Kahlua and Cream? I love arts and crafts of all kinds, and I refinish furniture as well. We are slowly redoing our entire house. 1. Congratulations on your new family! Big S and Little D are lucky kids to have landed with you! I was going to ask where they would hang their clothes, but I guess boys that age don’t wear button-down shirts, huh? I hope all goes smoothly, if that’s ever possible! 🙂

    • It is going really well. They are very good boys, and we are having fun. They really don’t have things to hang, but we could always hand a few things on the sides of the mirror.

  2. how wonderful!
congrats on your new charges 🙂
    do they like the cats?
i can’t believe how perfectly the dresser fits in the closet – like it was meant to be!
love the new setup in the boys’ bedroom.
very luck about that tree – so scary.

    • Little D is still wary of the cats, and Big S is scared of Crème, but grew and Ponche are already best friends forever. The boys both love pretending that they are cats and crawl around on the floor and furniture for hours meowing. It is crazy how well the dresser fits. I’m glad it worked out

    • When the boys arrived, they did not like to be read to, but I think that it was just because no one had ever read to them before. I started reading books at bedtime, and soon they were hooked. Now they love when someone reads books to them. It has been exciting to watch the transformation.
