The Grand Unveiling of the Tree
I am in love with my tree.
I was not sure that I was going to have one this year. It took me quite a while to get in the Christmas spirit this year. I had almost convinced myself that it was not worth the trouble, but Douglas would not let me give up. I am glad that we finally decorated it this weekend. My man is special.
We put the tree up on December 08. I wrote about that in the Beginning of Christmas.
Then on Tuesday December 10, we had a snow day, and I thought that it would be the perfect time to decorate the tree. I brought up the tubs of Christmas decorations.
I even pulled everything out to decorate, but then my motivation disappeared. Everything sat on the floor for almost a week.
In the meantime, Crème was joining her explorations of the tree.
I thought that she would not be able to climb a fake tree. I was wrong.
Finally, Saturday evening Douglas came home with pizza and egg nog and convinced me that we were going to decorate.
Crème was excited about the prospect. Kahlua ran for the bedroom.
We began, but immediately things started to go wrong.
Half of the lights refused to ignite. Douglas left to get more.
Then, the other lights went out. Back out went Douglas for yet another strand.
Finally, all of the lights were on the tree.
We started to put on the decorations. Since Crème was climbing the tree, we decided that it would not be a good idea to put on breakable ornaments. Therefore, we put ornaments that were precious but not breakable or breakable but not precious.
That is partly why I made the baking soda ornaments. They were easy to make, and I knew that I would not be upset if some would break. I can easily create more.
We also used decorations that were white, red and purple.
Kahlua did come out at one point to check on our progress. She continues to get braver.
I decided to use brown paper as a tree skirt. I wanted to use something that I already had in the house, and last year Crème refused to leave alone the blanket that I used.
I did not think that she would be as interested in sleeping on the paper. I am sure that you have already figured out that I was wrong yet again.
The tins placed around the paper have helped a little… very little.
I do not care, however, because the tree is stunning. I love it from every angle.
I love it at night.
I love it during the day.
I love it forever… or at least until January.
I will probably cry when I have to take it down.
Happy Homemaking!
Yeah, not only is Creme sleeping on the paper tree skirt, before the tins were added she was seen multiple times running through the house pulling it along with her…
I have also seen her hiding under it. sigh. I guess nothing’s Creme proof.
So pretty! No wonder Crème wants to climb it and hang out under it! Have you noticed how in the night photos, the gold ball ornaments seem to be floating in 3D in front of the tree?
They do! Now I love my tree even more. 🙂 Hope all is well in Oregon.
