The Twelve Beers of Christmas
Today I am going to share with you my favorite gift from last year. I was dying to blog about it last year, but I did not want to spoil the surprise, and it just would not have been as fun to write about it after Christmas. Therefore I waited an entire year to bring you… the twelve beers of Christmas.
Unless you know of a place where you can buy single bottles of beer, it helps if you have several people to whom you can give this gift. I opted for all American beers and bought them at Target. The best was watching my mother who never had a drink until she was in her forties pushing around a shopping cart full of beer.
I made one each for Douglas, my mom’s husband, my brother, my step brother and my Jamaican brother.
It took a lot of wrapping. My mom helped me, and we wrapped the beer six pack by six pack. Then, I wrote the number of the beer on all of the bottles with a sharpie.
I decided to reuse the original six pack containers. That required that I remove or cover any markings of the original beer.
Once all of the beers were wrapped and labeled, I packaged them in shopping bags. I wanted a bag that was fairly sturdy and would not rip easily. They were not the prettiest packages under the tree, but they were popular once opened!
Tom and my brothers never told me whether or not they drank them one day at a time or more quickly, but Douglas chose to drink one a day for the full twelve days.
Please sing the next twelve lines to the best of your ability to the tune of “The Twelve Days of Christmas.” Actually, it might be easier if you have Bob and Doug McKenzie’s parody of the twelve days of Christmas in your mind.
On the first day of Christmas my true love got from me a beer under the tree. (Budweiser Black Crown)
On the second day of Christmas my true love got from me a Sam Adam’s Cherry Wheat beer.
On the third day of Christmas my true love got from me a Third Shift beer.
On the fourth day of Christmas my true love got from me a Magic Hat Heart of Darkness beer.
On the fifth day of Christmas my true love got from me a Brooklyn East IPA beer.
On the sixth day of Christmas my true love got from me a Batch 19 beer.
On the seventh day of Christmas my true love got from me a Shocktop Honeycrisp Apple Wheat beer.
On the eighth day of Christmas my true love got from me a Blue Moon Mountain Abbey Ale beer.
On the ninth day of Christmas my true love got from me a Blue Point Winter Ale beer.
On the tenth day of Christmas my true love got from me a Sierra Nevada Celebration beer.
On the eleventh day of Christmas my true love got from me a Brooklyn Lager beer.
On the twelvth day of Christmas my true love got from me a Yuengling Black and Tan beer.
Are you still singing? You can stop now.
So, no turtle doves and no one was leaping or milking, but it was a fun gift. Douglas definitely enjoyed it.
Happy Holidays!
P.S. I am linking up with Inspire Me Monday, Inspire Me Tuesday, Wow Us Wednesday, Outside the Box, Fall into Fall, Creative Inspirations, and Feathered Nest Friday.
Wait a second!!! 6 packs have 6 beers, and you gave this gift to only 5 people, that leaves one beer from each 6 pack unaccounted for! Where is the missing beer???
Oh, and it was a wonderfully delicious 12 days, enough so that I just now noticed the discrepancy in beer count…
The remainder were placed in the fridge at my mom’s house. I am sure that you drank a few without realizing that they were left over from your Christmas present.
Sure they were… What’s his name? ;P
;P
What a fun idea! But I don’t know enough people to share it with … we’d have to drink it all ourselves! 🙂
You could do the twelve six packs of Christmas! 😉 Eric would love it.
Does it count if I just give this to myself? lol Ok, maybe I’d share with my husband. If he’s nice.
Absolutely! 😉
