Yet Another Unfinished Project
This is a picture of the Cape of Dreams that was taken on July 21, just about thirty six hours after I returned from Costa Rica. Can you tell what is wrong in this picture?
Here is a closer look. Does anything look off?
If you still have not spotted the abnormality, I will zoom in even more. Can you see it now?
There are no shutters on the house. They were starting to look pretty bad and had to be removed. The southern most shutter had sustained the most damage, but they were all bad.
This was the reason that Douglas built sawhorses back in June. He needed them in order to scrape and repaint all of shutters. While I was in Costa Rica he took them down. Some of the house paint peeled off with the shutters, but not enough to leave these big green patches. Apparently, whoever last painted the house decided that it was not important to take the shutters off and paint behind them. Also, our house must have been forest green in the not too distant past.
So, now we not only have to prime and paint the shutters, but we also have to paint the front of the house so that it is all one color. In the meantime, this is as far as the shutters have gone. OK, that is not true. They made it down to the basement, and they have been scraped, but they remain unprimed and unpainted.
Someday when we stop traveling, we will get around to finishing this project. I am just not sure when that is going to be. Until then, this is what the house looks like. The neighbors will just have to deal with it.
Happy Homemaking!
LOL–I totally missed the missing shutters. I thought what was wrong was the stuff growing out of your gutters! Scrapping shutters does not sound fun. (I am still laughing!) 🙂
Arg! Cleaning the gutters is another one we should add to the list!
I totally missed the missing shutters, too! Maybe it’s different when you’re standing on the sidewalk in person, but I wouldn’t think anyone would notice unless they were looking for it 🙂
I honestly did not notice in person either. Douglas had to tell me that he took the shutters down. I think that it is because the wall is a different color where they used to be.
Ain’t gonna lie — shutters are a bear. I did all of ours the last time we painted the house: 10 pairs. They do look wonderful when finished. Consider spray painting them and using a primer close to the color of the finished shutter. Jo @ Let’s Face the Music
Thank you for the suggestions. I will pass them on to Douglas because this is his project.
My shutters are in bad shape as well and my neighbours deal with that just fine, don’t worry about yours 😉
Glad to hear that I am not the only one!
